Man convicted of first-degree murder in fatal shooting outside Superior Township complex

By Art Aisner

An Ypsilanti Township man was convicted of murder Wednesday in the shooting death of a Superior Township man outside an apartment complex in January.

A jury found Larry Hunter, 27, guilty of first-degree murder and multiple firearms violations after deliberating for roughly four hours, court officials said. Sentencing is set for July 21.

Hunter argued during his trial that he had an alibi, but prosecutors showed he shot 30-year-old Jamar Gardner outside the Sycamore Meadows apartments in the 8700 block of MacArthur Boulevard during a fight on Jan. 23.

Marget Pittman, who is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm in the incident, is scheduled to enter a plea in Washtenaw County Circuit Court Friday morning, records show. Further details about the agreement were not immediately available.

Police said LaShawn Covington, Pittman’s 18-year-old son, is scheduled to stand trial Monday on assault charges stemming from the incident.

well first of all 'proudparent' if you were at the trial you would have heard the story and you can not hold someone accountable for other folks actions...with that being said i comend ms pittman for her bravery to even go to an all male brawl....and the people with him should be held accountable also

Ms Pittman and her son should be held accountable as much as Mr. Hunter. Everyone involved in his death should suffer the same consequences. People have altercations everyday, but they dont go get guns and come back and kill someone. Hopefully they learn a lesson here. You cannot take a persons life, you are not god! Ms. Pittman gets to see her son again, on holidays, birthdays and anytime she makes a visit. Jamars family has to go to a gravesite, never to hear his voice or see his face. Im sorry for your loss. Sorry you have to deal with an untimely death in your family.

why would ms pittman deserve anything when she was only protecting her son? is she the only woman in that part of town that has balls to face a crowd of dummies?

His alibi???...why he was with Ms Pittman and her son LaShawn! Why that wouldn't be accepted as proof he didn't pull the trigger I don't understand....
