Mark Ouimet to visit Washtenaw County senior centers to discuss impacts of state budget

By Ryan J. Stanton

"With the governor's budget proposal now public, many senior citizens have questions about how the plan may affect them," Ouimet said in a statement. "These special office hours will give area seniors a convenient opportunity to visit with me personally."

A special report carried by AnnArbor.com on Sunday shows how Gov. Rick Snyder's proposed tax plan would be costly for thousands of Michigan residents, including many seniors.

Ouimet will visit with seniors at the following locations:

  • Friday, March 4, 9-10 a.m., at Chelsea Senior Center, 500 Washington St.
  • Friday, March 11, from 9-10 a.m., at Dexter Senior Center, 7720 Ann Arbor St.
  • Friday, April 8, 9-10 a.m., at Saline Senior Center, 7190 N. Maple Road
  • Monday, May 2, 9-10 a.m., at Whitmore Lake Senior Center, 9101 Main St.

I am a little sick and tired of senior discounts. You seniors out there have most of the money and have no problem sticking it to the rest of us taxpayers with all your free drugs, free this, free that. Property tax rebates, etc., will it never end. Listen up seniors, we're bringing the public employees a taste of reality, you're next. Why should anyone get an exemption from income tax just because of retirement? If you can afford to be retired, you can afford to pay your share of taxes. Now pony up. We're broke and we need you.

Those legislators that vote to tax my pension will also be one that will never get my vote again - for anything. It is as simple as that.

Here's the bottom line for seniors. Don't be fooled by smooth talk and generalizations. Mark Ouimet WILL vote to tax your pensions. When he shows up at your senior center, just ask this question. Will you vote to tax my pension? It's a simple yes or no question, so you should expect a simple yes or no answer. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm a senior citizen, grew up on a farm, and am a life long Republican. If Mark Ouimet supports taxing senior, then no senior should ever vote for him again. It's taxing those of us who can least afford to pay to benefit those who could well afford to pay moreā€”like Mark Ouimet. State legislators like Mark receive a base salary of $79,650 per year, which makes them the second-highest paid legislators in the nation, after California.

And, with those times, he won't even get a free lunch out of it. Oiumet is why we have term limits. Too bad he's got a few more options before he'll have to hang it up.

As long as he does not claim any per diem reimbursement, everything will be okay. LOL.

Is this the same Mark Ouimet who supported the Saline Schools Bond extension that lost in a 56-44 landslide?????? Yep.

Now that's being a responsible elected official. He is willing to be open and forthright and tell us how we are going to be skewered.
