Mayor's Green Fair is tonight in downtown Ann Arbor
The latest models of manufacturers’ electric cars will be on display on Main Street in Ann Arbor this evening. So will older vehicles outfitted with homemade electric engines or systems that run on vegetable oil.
They're all part of the 11th annual Mayor’s Green Fair, scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in downtown Ann Arbor.
The fair will feature food, entertainment, hands-on activities for kids and more than 120 environmentally minded exhibits, said Ann Arbor Mayor John Hieftje.
Volunteer Michael Flynn and 7-year-old Gavin LaHousse of Ann Arbor look on as 11-year-old Andrew Smigielski cycles to power lights and a stereo at the 10th annual Mayor's Green Fair in Ann Arbor last year.

The Washtenaw Biking and Walking Coalition’s annual Bike Fest is one of the events connected to the fair. The group is urging attendees to ride to the fair if they can, where they'll find a bike pull, smoothies blended via pedal power and sessions on how to play bike polo.
The fair means streets downtown will be closed to vehicle traffic between 3 and 11 p.m. Streets blocked off will include Main Street between William and Huron streets, Liberty and Washington streets between Ashley Street and Fourth Avenue.

I didn't get this notice from annarbor.com until Saturday! Low turn out last night. Not enough publicity and threatening rain.

I don't understand why they can't hold this fair on Saturday or Sunday during the day when more people could attend instead of holding it during rush hour on Friday

If I'm a bit late, feel free to start without me.

Maybe I'm not "the norm." I'm not "camera friendly." I don't "wear clothes that fit me." but so long as it's not down-pouring I'll be "biking" downtown to the "green" fair...

xmo, your comment is rather bitter. Thank you Juliana for pointing out this wonderful event, I am new to this area and love to hear about these types of events. xmo, awareness is a big key to curbing CO2 emissions and events like this showcase what is and can be done to lower our carbon footprints. Sure, staying inside would lower our footprint but we are human beings who enjoy socializing, while you can surely lock yourself in your home most people would find this lifestyle rather sad and lonely. Thank you annarbor.com for being my one stop place for cool events around town.

"environmentally minded exhibits" do these exhibits actually save the planet from "Man Made" climate change or do they just make you feel like you are doing something important? It would be better if everybody stayed home and did nothing so that we could reduce the "GREEN HOUSE" gas CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)
