“"No, I don't want to own a conference center. I don't want to own a hotel. I don't think this has anything to do with public health, safety or welfare. We've been through these experiences with the Y lot. We've been through this experience with 415 W. Washington. We continue to go out and send RFPs and fish, and we catch nothing but leeches that want to suck on the public dollar." - Ann Arbor City Council Member Stephen Kunselman, on a proposed plan for a downtown hotel conference center atop the underground parking structure being built by the city next to the library.

"It's a reality that we're not going to have 2007 revenues again until 2025. You can't be the same size with less revenue. I don't care how efficient you are. It's just a reality we live in. We have to have maybe not less services, but something has to be smaller." - Washtenaw County Commissioner Kristin Judge, on funding county services.

“Our deficit for next year will be approximately $15 million if we took no steps to make reductions. The impact on our fund balance would take it from about $19.6 million to less than $5 million in one year. It’s crucial for us to make extremely tough reductions at this point in time.” - Ann Arbor interim schools Superintendent Robert Allen, on next year’s budget.
