Should public school board members send their kids to district schools?

By Stefanie Murray

Ann Arbor school board Treasurer Randy Friedman's purchase of a home in Birmingham to reduce the commute between Ann Arbor and the private school his children attend in Oakland County has raised questions of his primary residency, David Jesse reported today.

Friedman said the purchase shouldn’t disqualify him from serving on the school board. He still owns a home in Ann Arbor and said he considers the city his home.

I guess this is why we have elections. The voters will decide if they want to retain this person. His sending his children to another school district speaks volumes about his confidence in the A2 Public Schools, however. But, there is no requirement that a school board member's children attend any specific schools.

How much is one paid to be an elected schoolboard member? Just curious.
