Pioneer High School principal search: Interviews for 2nd round of applicants start Friday

Ann Arbor Public Schools spokeswoman Liz Margolis said the district is “back in the full process” and several different levels of interviews began on Friday.

She said the district is hopeful a decision will be made in the next few weeks, although a specific timeline has not been set.

The first interviews for positions such as this typically are conducted with a large committee of parents and staff, Margolis said.

This is the second attempt at filling the Pioneer High School principal’s position, which has been vacant since June. Assistant Principal Kevin Hudson is serving as the current interim principal.

Superintendent Patricia Green decided in early October to re-post the position after not being 100 percent satisfied with the first pool of applicants, which was vetted throughout the summer.

Margolis said Green is determined to find the “best fit” for the school, so she opened the application period back up to see what other individuals were out there. The latest posting closed Oct. 16.

The first round of applicants went through the district’s extensive interview process, were narrowed down and two names were recommended for Green’s consideration, Margolis confirmed.

At a recent school board meeting, Green said those two individuals have not been ruled out.

The district fielded 41 applications in its first attempt to fill the seat, which was considered somewhat low. The number of applications received in the second posting was not available Friday.
