Police have identified the 59-year-old Ypsilanti Township woman hit and killed by a car as she crossed Golfside Drive in Pittsfield Township Thursday evening as Michele Ann LaDuke.

Pittsfield Township Deputy Police Chief Gordy Schick said the incident remains under investigation and that officials are awaiting the results of LaDuke's toxicology report.

Schick said LaDuke was crossing Golfside Drive from the east side to the west north of Washtenaw Avenue just before 6 p.m. Thursday when she was hit by a red Toyota sedan.

"She didn't use the crosswalk," Schick said.

There are no anticipated charges against the driver, according to police.

Emergency responders were first dispatched to the area at 5:53 p.m. The driver of the Toyota was not injured in the crash. LaDuke had initially suffered serious injuries but died while at the hospital, AnnArbor.com previously reported.

I'd just like to point out that Ms LaDuke was crossing to the bus stop across from the Kmart. They recently changed the road from 4 lanes without crosswalks or bike lanes, to 3 lanes with 3 island cross walks and bike lanes on both sides. The area that LaDuke was crossing at does not have a crosswalk, it is about half way between the Washtenaw & Golfside intersection and the first crosswalk. With the bus stop right there on the other side of the street from the Kmart, it's going to have pedestrians crossing there, even without a crosswalk. They really need to go back and install a crosswalk at that location too.

Joe? I have to agree with you on that one. Use the crosswalks. The bus stop is not that far. What is the rush? You will get to your destination. Unfortunately, not this time. Condolences to the family. Ann Arbor News will be issuing another car hit on Thursday. I am too beside myself right now to think about it.

They can't put a bus stop every 50 feet either. What's the matter with people just walking to the nearest crosswalk? Before the rebuild there went any except at the intersections.

There is a bus stop at each of the other three cross walks. The bus stop is the one closest to the intersection, they can't put the bus stop ~at~ the intersection.
