Prostitution sting nabs two Ypsilanti Township women, deputies say

By Lee Higgins

Two Ypsilanti Township women were arrested during a prostitution sting Tuesday morning in the township, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

The women, ages 23 and 43, offered sex to an undercover deputy in exchange for money in the area of Michigan Avenue and Johnson Street about 11:40 a.m., deputies said.

The women are at the Washtenaw County Jail and are scheduled to be arraigned today.

Deputies targeted the area after receiving complaints from business owners. A similar sting resulted in five arrests last week.

@glennshaw I have lived in that area my whole life.I have NEVER seen a prositiute in that area.I When I say never I mean I lived and still live within 2 blocks.I've been there for over 40 yrs and never seen a prostitute there.I have to question your honesty.Maybe its kids(collage students)walking home.To say that area is a prositiutite area is just nuts

I recently went to a local business on Michigan Ave in Ypsilanti near Grove and was in the store for about 5 minutes. When I went back to my car there was a prostitute going through it. Silly me for forgetting to lock my door! She rambled something about thinking it was her friends car and then ran away. Let's not forget that along with the sex and drugs goes theft. If she can't find any "work" she is going to rob to feed her habit. These ladies need drug rehab not jail or they will go right back to what they doing when the get out of the slammer.

I would expect that with the weather getting so cold, the prostitutes would either be really cold or must be wearing something other than typical prostitute clothing. But I guess they have other ways of letting police know who's offering these "special services". I would at least expect that prostitutes actually offering there services on the street would be down, which could be another reason that people all of a sudden are noticing fewer (though I don't discount the efforts of police in also getting the number down).

It is sad, I live on Washtenaw ave. between Mansfield and Hewitt Rd. we see these young ladies walking up and down all evening long and the City of Ypsilanti is no where to be found.

Prostitution and drugs go hand in hand. You cut down on one you are affecting the other. I agree the bus drop off in Ypsilanti is a bad place also. I drive down Michigan Ave regularly and these women do nothing to hide what they are doing out here. I am glad to see it is being cleaned up. It is about time. I don't understand why people complain when WCSD is making an effort to take care of crime. This is a good thing. Keep up the good work. The city needs to do something about the prostitutes on Michigan Ave in the city. Between McDonalds at Ecorse and Dairy Queen is a regular strolling area for them.

I_love _AnnArbor Do you own a business? If so, would you want prostitues walking back and forth in front of your business? Also they may not normally walk up to and ask for sex but there is a thing called "Flaging" in which they wave to potential customers to let them know they are working.I don't know if in Wash Co. or Ypsi City this is illegal, but it is in Detroit as I've personally arrested people for it

Its a waste of WCSD time and money. How much money has been spent on gas for undercover johns to ride around asking for sex? Prostitutes don't normally go around asking who wants to buy sex. How about doing something about the loitering and drug selling at the Ypsilanti bus station? So we arrest those who want to sell their bodies and wonder why the Hogback Hilton is overcrowded

xmo thats something you would have to ask Ann Arbor Police. Also I'm the first to defend Ypsi, but I don't know of anywhere in Ann Arbor that has the amounts of prostitites going up and down the streets as that section of Michigan ave. Sadly it's just a fact
