Saline area primary races heating up, especially in York Township
Note: There could be additional filings for some offices that were not posted on the county’s Website as of Tuesday night. The deadline for partisan candidates to file to run in the Aug. 7 primary came and went Tuesday.
In the Saline area, there were a large number of candidates filing for the Aug. 7 primary, especially in York Township, where voters will have four choices for supervisor, and that's just for starters.
Helen Neill, the Republican incumbent clerk, was running unopposed as of Tuesday evening, and Sally Benjamin Louis, a Republican, is the only candidate for treasurer.
A large number of trustee candidates filed as well. They are Republican incumbents Jane A. Kartje and Jill A. Hargrove, as well as Republican candidates Thomas L. Preston, Brian F. Iott and Dan C. Pichla and Democrat Gary Zajac, an incumbent. Voters will be asked to pick four.
In Lodi Township, there’s a three-way Republican race for supervisor as incumbent Republican Jan Godek is being challenged by Karen Edman and Jeffrey Feldkamp.
Current Republican Clerk Elaine Masters and current Republican Treasurer Michelle K. Foley are running unopposed in the primary.
The four incumbent Republican Trustees, Peg Canham Keeley, William Lindemann, Don Rentschler and Byron Staebler are running for re-election.
In Pittsfield Township, all but one of the current incumbents is running for re-election as the Pittsfield Promise. According to the website, they are unopposed.
They are incumbent Democrats Supervisor Mandy Grewal, Clerk Alan Israel, Treasurer Patricia Tupacz Scribner and Trustees Stephanie Hunt, Gerald Krone and Michael Yi. In addition, Frank Lotfian has joined the incumbents as a Democratic trustee candidate.
In Saline Township, the entire current Republican slate of elected officials has filed. Supervisor James Marion, Clerk Kelly L. Marion, Treasurer Judy M. Gordon and Trustees Robert Prehn and Robert J. Marion are running unopposed.
