Superintendent Scot Graden confirmed her resignation to the Post Thursday, stating Cattell intended to resign in June, at the four-year mark of when she was first elected. But Graden told the Post she decided to leave in January to allow the new school board to start fresh and avoid a mid-year transition.

Karen Delhey and Diane Friese will be sworn in to serve on the Saline Board of Education Tuesday at the board’s first regular meeting of the new year. Until then, the board technically has just four members.

Former board President Lisa Slawson and Vice President Chuck Lesch’s terms expired in November. Neither Lesch nor Slawson sought re-election.

Delhey and Friese ran for their seats and won in November. They will take office Tuesday after being sworn in.

Cattell’s term was set to end on Dec. 31, 2014.
