Police closed down southbound U.S. 23 near Whitmore Lake Monday afternoon after a semi truck's trailer rolled over onto another vehicle, dispatchers said.

The freeway was closed down just after 1 p.m. Monday, dispatchers confirmed. A Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office advisory said the freeway was closed between Six Mile and Eight Mile and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Police were responding to the scene of the accident and details on the crash were not immediately clear.

Huron Valley Ambulance spokeswoman Joyce Williams said paramedics were dispatched to the crash to assist with extrication.

Preliminary information indicated only a car and a semi truck were involved in the crash. It's unknown how many people were injured.
