Speed, alcohol appear to be factors in fatal motorcycle crash in Superior Township, police say

By Lee Higgins

Speed and alcohol use appear to be factors in a fatal motorcycle crash Wednesday night in Superior Township, Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies said.

A 21-year-old Superior Township man died about 6:05 p.m. after losing control of a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle, while traveling west on Old Ford Road at a high rate of speed, a sheriff's department news release said.

The motorcycle went off the road and into a ditch and hit some tree limbs and a stump, throwing the man off the bike, the release said. He was wearing a helmet. Deputies say the accident occurred east of Plymouth Road.

The man's name has not been released, as authorities notify his family members. Superior Township Fire Capt. David Judson declined to comment this morning.

Sheriff's department spokesman Derrick Jackson said he did not have further details.

Ford Rd is often the scene of high speed motorcycles, we live nearby and can hear them race by. It's unfortunate that this happened, but fortunate that no one else was involved or hurt. Our prayers go out to his family.

This is truly sad. Everyone sometimes makes mistakes in judgement... Rest in Peace, Sir.
