University of Michigan Hospitals CEO to lead state hospital association

Doug Strong, CEO of University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers, will take a leading role of the state’s largest hospital association.

Strong becomes chair of the board of trustees of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association on July 1, following a vote today.

Strong oversees University Hospital, C.S. Mott Children’s and Women’s Hospital, 30 health centers and 120 outpatient clinics within the University of Michigan Health System.

He’s laying out plans for his one-year term on the MHA’s board of trustees in Mackinac Island today at the group’s annual meeting, according to a press release from UMHS.

Goals in his new role include improving the efficiency, safety, quality and appropriateness of care at hospitals across the state.

Recent MHA efforts to improve care that U-M has adopted include initiatives aimed at reducing hospital-acquired infections and improving the quality of hospital food.
