The Ann Arbor man accused of brandishing his pistol during a fight in January pleaded guilty Monday to assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Ronjour Jacobs, 32, is accused of pulling out the gun during a brawl that occurred in the early hours of Jan. 11 at Luca's Coney Island, 2469 Washtenaw Ave., in Ypsilanti Township.

Jacobs originally was facing six charges total, but after an initial three assault charges were consolidated in to one and two other initial charges were dismissed, he ended up facing two.

Since the incident, AnnArbor.com has reported Jacobs did have a concealed weapons permit, but as police pointed out, that doesn't mean he had the right to bring out his pistol during the fight.

Judge Darlene O'Brien scheduled sentencing for April 1.

In response to the pressure from township officials and the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office, Luca's owner George Gsokas said he is willing to permanently close the restaurant between midnight and 6 a.m. to minimize the opportunity for incidents like this to happen.

There also is surveillance footage of the brawl available.

In the video that you had on here yesterday, there was a guy in a green coat that also had a gun. What happened with him?

I noticed that as well and I'm curious. Although, if he has a CPL I think he acted properly and within the law. Once the first gun was out I think that man had the right to have his out as well, as it was a life threatening situation. If he has a CPL.

curious why the picture is of the Washtenaw Ave location, but it happened at the Michigan Ave location? A little misleading by the picture as to where it happened.

umichgirl - Thanks for pointing out the mistake. We've made the change. The incident DID happen at the Washtenaw Avenue location, so the picture is correct. Thanks for reading!

Is there any way to find out what reason(s) were stated by Mr. Jacobs for justifying his need for a cwp? Not so sure this is the type of person that displays this behavior is the kind of person that should have one.

"Is there any way to find out what reason(s) were stated by Mr. Jacobs for justifying his need for a cwp?" If the "Bill of Rights" was actually a "Bill Of Needs," then maybe. But, no, no need is needed.

@Abe - I think "the last [you] knew" was some time before 2001, when the law was changed. Still pretty impressive for a guy who's been dead for 147 years.

Abe....actually the whole state is " shall issue " in fact, the state had to force Washtenaw County to comply with the law. They were refusing to issue too many permits for no good reason ( like the guy who already had a restricted CPL but was denied because he had a 15 or 20 year old DUI )

Last I knew, some counties are a "Shall issue", which means no reason is needed. If you have a clean background, are proper age and take a course, the license is yours! (Which s how it should be, by the way. This is not a 'police state', and is our right to bear) Then you have counties which are "may issue". This means the gun board wants a reason why you want a CPL/CCW permit, and may or may not issue the license based off of that. And obviously you have to meet the min requirements such as: age, background....etc

@eep...are you kidding me???? I thought for sure you had to at least establish a need. Holy crap, that opens my eyes a bit.

A person who applies for a concealed pistol license in Michigan doesn't need to state any reason or justification - they just need to meet the basic criteria established by law (age, criminal record, mentally competent, training class, etc.). The only justification needed is, "I want one."

ya whats the status of his cpl?

... but at this point, following his guilty plea, (experts please confirm) he is now a felon, so he can't own a gun anyway.

That would most like be determined at his sentencing.

Don't care what he pleads....as long as he sees a little jail time, and he loses that CPL if he hasn't already had it revoked.
