A pickup truck crashed through the front of the Bona Sera Cafe in Ypsilanti Thursday morning and became lodged in the doorway, Fire Chief Jon Ichesco said. Crews were working to remove it.

The crash occurred around 10:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported, but the accident caused an estimated $8,000 worth of damages to the Bona Sera Cafe, Ichesco said.

The force of a collision between a car and a truck pushed the vehicle into the building, Ichesco said.

Bona Sera is located at 200 W. Michigan Ave. at the intersection with Washington Street.

Ichesco said it looked as if the car was trying to go west on Michigan Avenue as the truck was heading north on Washington. The truck driver tried to turn onto Michigan Avenue and was hit by the car.

"It just tied up the street because of the boulevard," Ichesco said.

Bona Sera is a newly opened business in Ypsilanti. The 3,000-square-foot cafe, which seats 60 people, is located in the previous J Neil's Mongolian Grill location.

Somehow I missed the original article about this place opening. Now after reading some of these comments, I will definitely check it out! Can't wait to try the shrimp & grits or oatmeal pie!

You missed another great one I think on Monday or Friday of last week. A car tried to go to thru the Vietnamese restaurant on the corner of Huron and Michigan. Light pole lost its life. Just a mess no one hurt I think.

Here's an update on this story. The restaurant opened at its usual time this morning: http://www.annarbor.com/news/ypsilanti/truck-crashes-through-door-but-ypsilanti-restaurant-opens-on-time/

ya know it seems a little strange to me that several (3+) cars have ended up hitting the buildings in Downtown Ypsilanti. One might think with those slow speeds and cool medians that the road might be a little safer? anybody got any theories?

Did you see the one on Huron and Ypsilanti of this week or last? We were turning and almost took the vehicle out that the emergency crews were cleaning up over. Scary. Slow down folks. The restaurants will open soon enough.

I heard the truck driver was in handcuffs during clean up.

Did the Police check this guy out? Seems to me that perhaps it just wasn't the sun in the driver's eyes...

How fast was the truck going? Crazy. That's not a wide open place where traffic speeds through -- it's usually pretty slow. Maybe not on a quiet Thursday morning after rush hour.

Well, UncleMao, I have to hurry across the street not to get hit by cars/trucks, etc. when I am in that neighborhood. Speeding is de rigueur everytime I am there.

I didn't know they had a drive through?

Sadly, the sign posted on the plywood over the entrance right now reads, "Drive-through Service Discontinued Until Further Notice."

Bona Sera posted on its Facebook that the business will be open soon, although a specific time frame was not mentioned. The message also says when it does reopen, patrons will have to use the Washington Street entrance and not the one on Michigan Avenue.

If it isn't a crazy high utility bill, it's a truck in the entrance. I am starting to think that location is cursed...

I hope not, Mark! We feel pretty blessed to have awesome customers, a landlord that insulated and boarded up out doorway within an hour, and police on the scene immediately. We are also thankful no one was hurt! We hope this incident doesnt deter you from stopping in sometime for some great local cuisine ;)
