Eastern Michigan to retire Earl Boykins' jersey on Sunday

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Earl Boykins will become the fourth Eastern Michigan men's basketball player to have his jersey raised to the Convocation Center on Sunday.

Boykins' No. 11 will join George Gervin, Grant Long and Kennedy McIntosh during a halftime ceremony of the Eagles' 2 p.m. game against Western Michigan. Laurie Byrd became the only women's basketball player to have her jersey retired earlier this season.

Boykins, who played at Eastern from 1994-98, was an honorable mention All-American as a senior and left as the second-leading scorer in program history with 2,211 points. He is currently a member of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks.

The 5-foot-5 point guard became a starter as a freshman and led the Eagles to NCAA Tournament appearances in his sophomore and senior seasons.

The first 500 fans at Sunday's game will receive a free Boykins T-shirt. All EMU alumni can attend the game for $3, and that price includes a hot dog and pop. Anyone 18 or over can enter to win an iPad.

I'm sorry, I didn't catch which NBA team he's won a Championship with? I can't recall which NBA team had drafted him either.
