Once again, BCS will crown a champ on paper only
Five undefeated teams. Only one can be crowned the official national champion by the BCS. Which one to root for?
None of the above, writes Jim Litke of The Associated Press.
Instead, he suggests fans root for Texas congressman Joe Barton. Barton has proposed a bill called the College Football Playoff Act of 2009 that's currently working its way through a House subcommittee.
The bill would require the BCS to adopt a playoff format or drop the word 'championship' from its name.
Litke's column kicks off our football-heavy Meandering this morning.

All conferences should have two divisions and a play-off/title game. Otherwise Florida would be playing for the NT against Bama? If the two best teams (highest ranked) are in the SEC, why should they beat each other up in the play-off game when all conferences don't participate in a play-off system? I vote for some type of top eight (or?) team play-off in bowl games.

NO March Madness. Maybe we should have a BCS in college b-ball? Sound stupid -right? Any fool would see at least a 6 team playoff is a must. Think of all the $$$ If they agree to get rid of March madness then Im all in. But until then we can assume that college is fixed /or big colleges give out the moula. Sorry Cinncy,Boise,TCU, Utah. I guess your not as worthy as the big schools. Somebody sue these giant mongores. PLAYOFF.......

We need someone like ESPN to refuse to televise games until they get a play off. Instead, ESPN signs a contract to keep the farce going for several years then has the gonads to say they have no control over college football

lumberg48108, the system doesn't work perfectly. Who is #1 or #2 or really just about any of the rankings is WILDLY contested. Look at 2006, Michigan (2) lost to Ohio State (1) and dropped to number 3 whereas Florida had lost to an unranked team and somehow got in at number 2, that isn't working. Two teams both with only 1 loss, one team losing to the number 1 team, one team losing to an unranked team... Rankings don't make any sense when teams don't play the exact same schedules. How was Florida number 3 when they could kill Ohio State and Michigan couldn't beat them. But how did Florida get to number 2 when they had a loss to a worse team than Michigan's loss. Also, Boise State anybody?

The system works perfect! Its designed to have #1 play #2 in the title game - that is all the system is designed to do and it works every year as #1 plays #2... so everyone should quite complaining that it does not work! Fair? Deserved? Right? Correct? That is not the point of the BCS... its designed for one purpose and it works. Change the system? Well - that makes too much sense for the NCAA... and they are worried about the players... even though they added a 12th game and have football games played on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sarurdays now...yes; they are so concerned.

Great, I love how our economy is in the pits, our national image is all but COMPLETELY destroyed, and we are stuck with a SLEW of other major issues and constitutional violations and our governments are worried about college football... GO U.S.!
