Temperance Bedford 56, Pioneer 54
Story | Boxscore
Pioneer’s Tevis Robinson missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer and Temperance Bedford handed the Pioneers their first loss in the SEC Red.
With 5 seconds remaining in the game, Bedford missed two free throws to give Pioneer a chance to win the game. Robinson got the rebound and dribbled up the court with no timeouts and fired a buzzer-beater that missed.
Pioneer trailed by 10 points with 3 minutes remaining, but was able to create turnovers with a press and score quick baskets.
Jibreel Hussein scored 15 for Pioneer (8-3, 3-1 SEC Red), and had three assists and two steals. Temperance Bedford (9-0, 4-0) was led by Jackson Lamb with 21 points.
“They pretty much led from start to finish and we battled back at the end,” Pioneer coach Rex Stanczak said. “We got after them after halftime, but we just didn’t sustain offense in the first half. I thought we executed a lot better in the second half, just didn’t make shots until the end.
Huron 53, Skyline 47
Story | Boxscore
Ernest Johnson scored a game-high 18 points to help Huron (5-4, 3-1 SEC Red) get out to a nine-point lead by halftime.
Peter Bakker-Arkema and Jack Clark each scored 10 to lead the Skyline (4-6, 1-2 SEC Red) offense, Bakker-Arkema with three 3-pointers, and Clark with two.
"A lot of times we'd cut the lead to a two or three point deficit, and we just couldn't capitalize to tie it up," Skyline coach Mike Lovelace said.
Saline 53, Monroe 47
Story | Boxscore
After trailing for the entire game, Monroe got within one point in the fourth quarter before Eric Jacobson and Reece Dils made sure Saline hung on for the SEC Red home win.
"Eric Jacobson scored his only four points late in the fourth quarter," Saline coach Eric Williams said. "Reece Dils sealed the win, four of his five free throws came late to clinch it."
Max Recknagel's 18 points led Saline (7-4, 1-3 SEC Red), while Dils had 13 and Michael Hendrickson has eight.
Ypsilanti 67, Adrian 32
Story | Boxscore
Although Justin Bernard paced Ypsilanti's offensive show, the play of freshman Corey Allen was also important to the Phoenix' winning efforts.
Bernard led Ypsilanti (8-2 overall, 4-0 SEC White) with 22 points, four assists and three steals, but Allen posted his first career double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
"The boys were ready to play from the start," Ypsilanti coach Steve Brooks said. "We hadn't played since last Saturday, so the guys were ready to get back on the court."
Dexter 47, Tecumseh 32
Story | Boxscore
Dexter jumped out to an 11-2 lead en route to a 10-point halftime lead, and remained in control to claim its third consecutive home win.
Dexter (5-5, 2-1 SEC White) extended its lead to 14 points in the second half and Tecumseh pulled within six points in the fourth quarter, but the Indians were unable to capitalize.
“The turning point of the game came in the very beginning, when we came out and executed our game plan right away,” Dexter coach Randy Swoverland said. “Tecumseh has a very deliberate, slow-paced style that makes it hard to come back with.”
Junior guard Kyle VanDusen had a career-high 13 points, including three 3-pointers, as Dexter made 10 3-pointers as a team.
Lincoln 53, Chelsea 37
Story | Boxscore
Lincoln widened what was a nine-point third-quarter lead when it outscored Chelsea 19-12 in the final 8 minutes.
"I thought defensively we played fairly well," Chelsea coach Rourke Skelton said. "Offensively we played not very well at all, but that had everything to do with their man defense on the ball. It got us intimidated at times and took us out of our offense.
"We usually have a couple guys around double figures, but we didn't shoot very well tonight."
Nine players scored for Lincoln (5-6, 2-2 SEC White), led by Sherrod Motley-Dismuke with 13 points. Chelsea (2-8, 1-3 SEC White) was led by Luke Hollandsworth with nine points and Luke Heumann with eight points.
Detroit U-D Jesuit 91, Father Gabriel Richard 82
Story | Boxscore
Junior guard Jason Houle paced Gabriel Richard (4-7, 2-3 Catholic League AA) with a career-high 32 points. He had been averaging about 23 per game.
"Jason was dialed in against high-level competition," Gabriel Richard Pete Schoch said. "He played strong and was able to score even when they put a hand in his face. He has a quick release."
Gabriel Richard's Evan Fosha picked up 16 points and point guard Kamari Davis chipped in 15.
Schoch said his Fighting Irish are accustomed to trading baskets, so Friday's game was within their comfort zone.
"They're uptempo and so are we," Schoch said. "It was a terrific high-school game, but we've got to do a better job defensively."
Willow Run 73, Taylor Trillium 20
Story | Boxscore
Four players finished in double figures for Willow Run (4-7, 2-1 MMAC North), which led 43-13 at halftime.
Senior Daquanta Brown led Willow Run with a game-high 18 points, thanks to six 3-pointers. Tyler Brooks, Anthony Davis and Tyler Hamilton each finished with 10 points.
‘We knew we wanted to run,” Willow Run coach Tim Cain said. “We carried it over from Wednesday when we scored 102 (vs. Detroit University Prep). Our offense is really clicking. When Daquanta is set, he can really shoot the ball. He puts the time in at the gym.”
Addison 64, Manchester 37
Story | Boxscore
Ryan Stiles led Manchester (0-12, 0-6 Cascades Conference) with 12 points.
“We played up-tempo, run-and-gun style, shoot from everywhere,” Addison coach Andy Kubish said. “We did a good job beyond the arch and rebounding so it made it tough for Manchester to score.”
Greenhills 68, Novi Franklin Road Christian 64
Story | Boxscore
Greenhills (9-1, 8-0 MIAC Blue) went 16 of 19 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, and led by as many as eight points in the final minutes.
Greenhill’s Andrew Khouri scored 11 points in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 23 points, including eight free throws (seven in the fourth quarter) and three three-point shots.
Novi Franklin Road Christian’s Phillip Isbell scored 15 points.
“It was good for our guys to go through that and come out with a win,” Greenhills coach Andrew Wright said. “Andrew started out hot. They started out in a 2-2 zone, and he hit three three’s in the first quarter. Then he started seeing doubles and was a passer for the next two quarters.”
Rudolf Steiner 59, Lansing New Covenant Christian 15
Story | Boxscore
Rudolf Steiner ended the game on a 20-0 run, after taking a 22-12 halftime lead.
Koji Vroom led Rudolf Steiner (8-5, 5-0 Mid-South) with 14 points, while Ben Hadlock added 12.
"We knew going into this game that they were down, so we started some of our underclassmen," Rudolf Steiner coach Nick Sherwood said. "We got things going in the second half, and put my starters back in the game to get some practice in."
Calvary Christian 40, Warren Macomb 36
Story | Boxscore
After Warren Macomb Christian held a 21-19 lead at halftime, Calvary Christian (1-9 overall) went on a 13-2 run in the third quarter and earned its first win of the season.
David Walker's first double-double of the season led the way. Walker finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
"They scored the first two points of the second half, and then we scored the next 13 in the third quarter," Calvary Christian coach Steve Thurmond said. "We played man-to-man defense, and we didn't give them any second shots. We boxed out well and got the rebounds."
Washtenaw Christian 53, Monroe Meadow Montessori 10
Story | Boxscore
Washtenaw Christian (7-3) jumped out to a 26-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, which allowed the Wildcats to utilize their bench players.
Washtenaw Christian’s Josiah Donat scored 14 points, but it was Christian Smallish’s five points in the second half that made Homecoming special.
“Christian Smallish is a great story, “Washtenaw Christian coach Dan Benefiel said. “He is playing basketball for the first time this year, and he hit a three and a two. He’s a young man who came out to be part of something, and for him to do that, it was a great experience. He was really excited, and I think it’ll help him in a lot of different ways.”

Who's next for Milan? Rudolf Stiener or Washtenaw Christian? Maybe Greenhills? Those schools have impressive records too. The first time they play a decent class A school they will be exposed. Probably won't come until districts. Too bad they don't play in the SEC. I saw them last year when they were undefeated and played against Huron. They lost by 30. Ypsilanti and Pioneer are the two best teams in the area and should be getting more coverage. But aa.com has to get readership (sell advertising) to the outlying areas so it makes sense from a business stand point.

Boo, We covered Ypsilanti last Tuesday and Pioneer last Friday, and will be covering both plenty more the rest of the season. We went to Milan yesterday because it was the best home game in the second half of the schedule. To your point about Milan's strength of schedule, we ran a feature about that topic where Milan coach Josh Tropea says he longs for an SEC schedule. http://www.annarbor.com/sports/high-school/milan-hoping-to-finally-face-challenge-in-monroe-st-marys-matchup-plus-friday-nights-basketball-sche/
