Michigan sweeps Big Ten softball honors; gymnast and track athlete win, too
The Michigan softball team swept the Big Ten's weekly honors after getting off to a 5-0 start to the season.
Senior first baseman Dorian Shaw was named the league's Player of the Week for the third time in her career after batting .538 with three home runs and nine RBIs in five games at the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational.
Michigan senior Jordan Taylor went 2-0 with a 1.31 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 16 innings at the tournament to earn Pitcher of the Week honors. It's the ninth time Taylor has won the award.
Michigan senior Kylee Botterman was named the Big Ten's Gymnast of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Botterman posted a perfect 10.0 on the vault - the first by any gymnast in the country this season - and won her sixth all-around title for No. 8 Michigan against No. 2 Stanford and No. 9 Nebraska on Sunday. This is her fifth weekly honor of the season, including last week.
Also, Michigan sophomore Rebecca Addison was named the women's Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 800-meter run at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in 2:03.79, hte fastest time in the nation so far this season. She also ran a leg of the Wolverines' second-place 4x400 relay team.
Earlier in the day, Michigan's <strong>Tim Hardaway Jr. was named the Big Ten's basketball Freshman of the Week.
