Red Berenson tabs Adam Janecyk as starter for Tuesday game against Bowling Green

During a conference call with the Big Ten Network on Monday, Michigan head coach Red Berenson said Janecyk will be the starter when Michigan takes on Bowling Green (5-10-5, 2-7-1-3 CCHA) on Tuesday at Yost Ice Arena (7:35 p.m., BTN).

It will be the fourth straight start for the Janecyk, which will be quadruple the amount the junior had for his career coming into the season, and just the second time the Wolverines (7-10-2, 4-7-2-2 CCHA) have had the same goalie for four straight games all season.

Though Janecyk was impressive in his first start of the year on Dec. 15, making 25 saves in a 2-0 shutout win over Western Michigan, the honeymoon appeared to be over after Michigan lost 4-0 to Michigan Tech with Janecyk in net in the opening game of the Great Lakes Invitational.

But Janecyk earned the win the following night in the third place game against Michigan State, and freshman Jared Rutledge didn't look sharp in Michigan's 5-3 exhibition loss to the United States National Team development Program's Under-18 squad last Friday.

Rutledge and fellow freshman Steve Racine started five and 11 games, respectively, through the team's first 16 games, but have been inconsistent. Michigan's 2-1 record with Janecyk in net is its best three game stretch since October.

Michigan can expect a boost with Jacob Trouba returning to action on Tuesday. The standout freshman missed the GLI while helping Team USA bring home gold from the World Junior Championships over Christmas break.
