Is Tate Forcier the next Colt Brennan at Hawaii? Not so fast, says one columnist
The skills of Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier are intriguing when it comes to the future of Hawaii football, Honolulu Star-Advertiser columnist Ferd Lewis writes.
But Forcier, who reportedly contacted the university about joining its football program, should be asked a lot of questions before he joins the Warriors, Lewis says.
From Lewis' column:
With Forcier there are questions that need to be posed and inquiries to be made. Not the least of them being: What happened this spring when the Detroit Free Press reported Forcier was taken to a hospital by police who were called to a Michigan apartment complex because a woman reported she feared Forcier might jump from a third-floor window? Questions also hung over his academic ineligibility for the Jan. 1 Gator Bowl and what happened early last fall when teammates were said to have “called him out” for greater effort in practice as coaches sought to motivate him?
After starting all 12 games as a freshman at Michigan in 2009, Forcier was a backup to Denard Robinson in 2010. He was ruled academically ineligible before the 2011 Gator Bowl.
By the time new coach Brady Hoke was hired on Jan. 12, it was announced that Forcier was no longer with the Wolverines' program.
Forcier was hospitalized in April after police were called by a woman and Forcier was found hanging from a third-story window.

There's a great line in the movie "Moonstruck" -- "It's a sad day when a man wakes up and realizes his one dream is gone." That's where Tate is ... he won't be a high-profile college QB. He won't be an NFL QB. If that was his dream ... if that's what he invested all his *hope* in ... then he has some work to do to get past that failed dream. It happens to the best of us. There was this young lady named "Kim" when I was a college man ... *sigh* Move on, Tate ... move on.

Don I like what you post. Because of the pattern of the forciers to transfer, it makes me wonder of all this grooming that was supplied by dad. Apparantly they needed a sports psychology coach also.

There is a pattern for all 3 Forcier men, with very unstable football lives. All 3 transferred from high profile programs, and it makes you ask: where is the parent in all of this? I just hope that Tate gets the family support he needs and gets some focus back. This seems to be an example of how sports can skew a young man's outlook and vulnerabilities.

I hope Tate gets it together. He's got a long life ahead of him whether he plays another football game or not. The things he's going through now are much bigger than football and I wish him well.

Why doesn't everyone just back off and stop hyping this kid. He appears to need to live up to his press image instead of just being himself. He needs help.

Wait, isn't Hawaii even farther away from home than Miami? I wish Tate would just man up and admit that the reason he didn't go to Miami was because they didn't really want/need him, not the bogus "I want to play closer to home" excuse that he came up with. If any Michigan fans have not yet done so, I suggest washing your hands of Tate Forcier as soon as possible. He is just going to continue to embarrass himself.

Best of luck to young Mr Tate Forcier he gave Mich. fans some real nice moments. If Tate is serious, Hawaii sounds like a nice place to play some ball. Wouldn't it be something to see Tate in a bowl game against Mich., its possible you know.
