Michigan football coach Brady Hoke chats with Rich Rodriguez on CBS
By Pete Bigelow
When Michigan football coach Brady Hoke went on CBS-TV on Wednesday to talk about his 2011 recruiting class, he found a familiar face on the other side of the screen.
Former Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez, working recruiting day for the television network, interviewed Hoke about his 20-member recruiting class.

Hey guys, this whetever is just chumming for bites. He doesn't offer any insight, I don't have a clue what he supports, and I think his moniker might be telling. Getting into a battle of wits with this guy would be like getting into a gun fight with an unarmed man.

FYI, Barwis is gone. Hoke brought his own strength coach. Don't let facts get in the way of your powerful argument, though.

It has been commented that recruiting suffers when there is a coaching transition. Dave Brandon was raked over the coals by numerous so-called "fans" for the damage he did to the recruiting process. Well, it appears little damage was done. According to Rivals.com: Michigan 2010 class was ranked #20 Michigan 2011 class (signed in the transition from whatshisname to Hoke) currently is ranked #21. So the transition "slippage" was one spot in the rankings. A small price to pay to get rid of whatshisname. Good Night and Good Luck

The look on whatshisname's face at the start of the interview was priceless. And his raising the issues of the facilities clearly was an effort to give himself credit for Hoke's success. As for his implication (and Dusty's) that the facilities were important: The 2008 Class (old facilities) rated #10 by Rivals The 2009 Class (old training facilities) rated #8 The 2010 Class (new facilities) rated #20 Guess this tells us one of two things: either whatshisname failed to take advantage of this important recruiting tool, or its not as important as whatshisname wishes it were. Yes, I'm certain that a bunch of 18-year olds were VERY impressed by 2x4s, drywall, bricks, and mortar. And, Dusty, the #20 rated 2010 class was whatshisname's. Signed in Feb 2010. First recruiting class to see the finished facilities. There was no transition at the time, now was there? Facts and calenders, man. Facts and calenders!! But you will argue about anything, won't you?? Good Night and Good Luck

And any 2009 recruits who visited the campus could see the new facilities in the works, as construction ha d begun in 2008. So no, the 2010 was NOT the first class who could have been influenced by them. Nice try, though.

Uh, hey MissionBrazil, yeah you. "far better than most people would have imagined". I was going to wait until later but now it's probably safe. Right after COACH Hoke's first PC, somebody who shall go nameless, (me, hey I'm nameless here!) stated without 'excuses' that Michigan would finish strong, right up to NSD, and break into the Top 25 for recruiting in 2011. I know, thanks guys, it means a lot from you. Remember TiM Go Blue! Hey, wasnt' that, well you know, talking about team building starting with DEFENSE. Boys and girls that was just another day at the office for those two pro's. They don't think ill of each other, they know the carousel ride well, here today and gone tomorrow. Getting fired is part of the game in college as well as the pro's and it doesn't necessarily mean your a bad coach. These guys know that in the future one of them could be working for the other one either in college or the pro's. Some of you just amaze me with your gifted site. Okay, for you disbelievers let's take Jon Gruden for instance, do any of you think he'll ever get a head coaching job either in the pro's or college. Okay, how about Charlie Weiss, can he coach? Maybe not a good head coach but ask Tom Brady if Charlie can coach. I wouldn't be surprised if some of what RR brought to Mich. is a valuable asset to Coach Hoke, like the spread offense. All this jibber jabber we gossip about on this site is probably not worth a moment of Brady or RR's time.

Jaysham that was good, you must have been a grunt son. Only a grunt would ague that it's better to be dirty and crawl than to be clean and fly. I like that analogy though cause no doubt we need grunts just like in the football trenches. The QB or Airforce needs his grunts or Marine Corps to get down and dirty in the trenches ya, I like that Jaysham, good thinking.

Yes, I'm talking about the weight room. The Stadium had been in the works for years, and even if it was never touched, it's the figgin' Big House. But I've seen video of the old weight room, and that thing was pitiful. My highschool weightroom (granted, it was pretty good for a highschool weightroom) was bigger and had more contemporary equipment. That's just ridiculous for a place like Michigan. I haven't seen the new weight room at Michigan, but I'm told it's on par with places like Notre Dame now (and I have seen Notre Dame's. It's amazing).

I don't know why you're all saying "ziiing"... Hoke can thank Rich Rod for having those facilities in the first place, because it was Rich Rod who came in in 2008 and convinced Martin to spend money on new digs because the old digs wouldn't do.

They do need some alone time and somebody to teach them that Al Glick who owns Alro Steel was the man who donated the money to build our new indoors practice field and as far as gutting the weight room we all know how that all worked out. By the way WCiMFH has been fired. We have a new coach now who doesn't lie, cheat, or shred papers before he leaves for another job. GO BLUE!

You mean the facilities that Lloyd Carr recruited a NUMBER ONE IN THE NIG TEN class in his final season versus the class that ranked number 20 last season (when RR had his entire "system" in place). Rich Rod did ZERO for Michigan football. Those years need to be erased in much the same way the Chris Weber, Maurice Taylor, Lewis Bullock and Robert Traylor years should be erased from all legitimate records in basketball. Rich Rood failed in EVERY measurable metric including strength and conditioning. look at thre record first half of every season versus the end of the season. Amazing hos their November record is so much worse than the September record. Sounds like a piss poor strength and conditioning program to me.

Like who? Inulted the facilities? Maybe they meant when he circumvented rules and ignored the Michigan compliance staff that he insulted the program? I think it's widely accepted that he changed many aspects of the Michigan football program culture, including the breaking of several traditions. I think its more convenient that you switch the focus of the conversation. Give him credit for the updated weight room, which was a stipulation of his hiring. The rest of the facilities were in the works before Rodriguez ever stepped on campus.

Stop it RudeJude, a Rich Rod supporter has no interest in the facts, only what they believe. I guess Rich Rod convinced Bill Martin to upgrade the indoor facility and add on the luxury boxes. In fact, before Rich Rod, Michigan football was in a shambles. It had never gone to a bowl game. It needed to be blown up and started from scratch. I think prior to RR the UM program had never been to a bowl game, or was even competitive on the field. Luckily Rich Rod saved the program. Now they can beat Wisconsin one time in three years. They only lost to OSU by 30 points. Any other coach would have lost by 100 in their eyes.

Portage, Sorry, I didn't think I had to spell it out for you. Considering Coach Hoke had less than a month to recruit this year's class, when most schools had a year head start, and when Michigan was ranked somewhere around 40th or 50th a week or two ago, I'm pretty happy Michigan is ranked 21st. I'm feeling confident Coach Hoke will bring in an even more impressive and better ranked class this time next year. And regards to your patience statement, I believe any coach deserves his five years to right the ship, as long as he doesn't circumvent the rules and bring the program into NCAA probation in the process. As bad is it was last year, I would have supported Rodriguez in 2011 had he not dragged Michigan's name through the mud off the field. I don't see how any Michigan fan could support him after that. But as you say, it's a free country. I'm just so glad we are free of Rich Rod! : ) Go Blue

The only thing that explains that "hole" is your hero, whatshisname. I'm certain you were as critical of his #20 class as you are of this #21 class, right? Yeah, right. Save yourself, man!!! Rude Jude, you like seeing Mich. ranked #21 in recruiting, not me. If we're not in the top 10 I call that a setback. You know what they say Rude Jude, " If you find yourself in a hole stop digging". I consider us in a hole and we're still digging if that's the best we can recruit. A lot of boys and girls think Brady is making improvment and in some areas maybe so but in the quality of recruits it's going to take to beat Notre Dame, Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska and little ol Ohio State and that's just in the 10 not counting a bowl game if we get there. Next year we've got to recruit in the top 10 just to make up for lost time or else boys and girls I hope you all are patient Wolverine fans.
