Michigan football coach Brady Hoke shrugs off Ohio State's criticism of 'grenade' celebration

By Kyle Meinke

After a win over Ohio State, Michigan players' celebration included hugs from cheerleaders, handshakes from fans and a "grenade drop" that the Buckeyes weren't too happy about.

Joseph Tobianski |

The Michigan football team blew up its seven-game losing streak to Ohio State.

Then, it celebrated with a "grenade" routine at midfield, in which quarterback Denard Robinson threw the football in the air like a grenade. When it hit the ground, players dropped to the turf in unison.

The route was cathartic for the No. 17 Wolverines (10-2, 6-2), who won 40-34 to end the run of futility against the rival Buckeyes.

Those Buckeyes weren't as good-natured about it, though.

"I lost so much respect for Michigan after they won n threw the ball in the air acting like it was a grenade," tweeted Buckeyes fullback Zach Boren. "To take it to that level of disrespect is just so uncalled for. Act like you have won before."

Boren is the younger brother of former Ohio State offensive lineman Justin Boren, who transferred from Michigan to the Buckeyes following Lloyd Carr's retirement after the 2007 season and was critical of the Rich Rodriguez regime.

Of course, no current Michigan player had beaten Ohio State before. Seniors were 0-3 and had been outscored 100-24 in the rivalry.

Added Ohio State tight end Jeff Heuerman: "Karma is gonna be a (expletive) for that little 'celebration' at the end."

Players said the controversial celebration -- you can catch a piece of it at the 34-minute mark of this YouTube video -- is something they have done after each Friday practice this year. Coach Brady Hoke said he was fine with his team celebrating their win that way.

"I don’t have any problem (with it) because it wasn’t disrespectful to anybody," Hoke said. "It’s something they do every Friday.

"No. It wasn’t disrespectful to anybody. It’s something those kids have done for 12 weeks.”

Ohio State, though, clearly was offended with the episode, which occurred in front of several players at midfield.

It led to Ohio State cornerback Brad Roby tweeting: "I will never lose to those scrubs again."

Other notes from Hoke's Monday press conference:

Brennen Beyer

Beyer expected to return

Brennen Beyer is expected to participate in bowl practices. The team won't work out as a team this week, but the freshman linebacker could be back with the team when it reconvenes next week. He did not play against Ohio State, and Hoke had said he was unsure if he would be back this year.

Brendan Gibbons

Gibbons finishes strong

Hoke was effusive in his support of kicker Brendan Gibbons, who hit a 43-yard field goal to give Michigan a six-point lead with 1:59 remaining against Ohio State.

After going 1-of-5 last year, Gibbons finished 10-of-14 this year. He credited the confidence and positivity of the coaching staff as a factor in his turnaround.

Hoke offered more of it Monday.

"Huge," he said of the 43-yard kick. "Huge. I mean, Gibbons in that kick, you know, because there were some people that really doubted him at the beginning of the year -- maybe some in this room -- maybe. Didn’t say. But he did a tremendous job all year, and he’s grown and he’s learned and he’s got a good demeanor about him. He’s worked hard.”

This and that

A couple other topics broached by Hoke during his 33-minute session with the media:

On whether offensive coordinator Al Borges will be interested in any head coaching vacancies: “I don’t know. I don’t know. If he does, good. If he’s interested, I mean, that’s all right.”

On what he told Ohio State coach Luke Fickell after the game: “I just thought he did a heck of a job, all year. Tough situation.”

On sophomore tailback Fitz Toussaint’s apparent fourth-quarter touchdown that was overturned on a replay: “Do I agree exactly with the call? The rule states there’s got to be some sort of evidence to overturn it?” Then, instead of finishing his thought, he smiled.

Great tactic Ohio! Anything to divert attention from your loss and the sad state of affairs at your school!

Hey Zach, Talk less, work more. Sincerely, Tate Forcier

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 7:45 p.m.

You're right, Ohio. Instead Michigan should vandalize cars with Ohio license plates, like the bucks do in Columbus to Michigan fans.

Gotta love tosu fans complaining about classless behavior. But I guess they know it when they see it. They are, after all, expert practitioners of classless behavior. Good Night and Good Luck

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 1:14 a.m.

Wow. These Ohio State players are really stretching for some bulletin board material. Give me a break. Besides, if you need bulletin board material to get pumped up for this rivalry, you've got your own problems.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 11:59 p.m.

So some buckeye fans are still sore over the 1969 24 to 12 loss? Gotta love it! I hope this 2011 40 to 34 loss lingers at least for 42 more years. In the mean time, I am sure Michigan will add more losses to buckeye nation. buckeye fans: keep whinning, it is fun reading all of that garbage. Y'all made my day.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 9:27 p.m.

osuBetterthanwho, As a visiting fan at a game at osu I was physically threatened, pushed and shoved in the stands, and constantly (not just "off and on") called names that would not be allowed on this board. I've been in some tough spots and came out standing and I've been called worse by people better than the typical osu fan I've had the misfortune to encounter and it didn't ruffle my feathers. I too was in the stands on Saturday and I did not witness any comparable behavior directed an any osu faithful. Before a game in c-bus I witnessed some "classy" osu fans on a street near the stadium run up to an older couple in Michigan attire, block their way, and scream "f* * * y* * blue b*t*h" over and over right in the woman's face. You're right that a little name calling goes with a rivalry like this - but there comes a point when it descends into unacceptable behavior. When attending a game at Notre Dame, I was told by a Notre Dame official your classy osu fans urinated on the church on campus there, among other deeds to make an osu fan proud. He commented that your fans were the worst behaved he had seen up to that time. Your team has planted flags on an opponent's field, torn down banners in opponents' stadiums, a coach of yours struck an opposing player during a game, and on and on and on. While all teams have a few fans who go too far, yours has a significant contingent that not only embarrasses your school but the whole conference. Michigan's celebration pales in comparison. I agree that the sign you mentioned was tacky and shouldn't have implied the offenses were similar - neither is acceptable, both damaged their schools, but they are not equivalent. As you said "A Michigan fan had A sign" and you go an indict all of Ann Arbor and U of M. Typical, miss the serial poor behavior of your osu fans and then indict a whole city and school over one sign.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 8:55 p.m.

I was curious about the origin of the "grenade celebration". Here's what I found - - "The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have a (touchdown) celebration whereby players form a circle, toss a football in the air in the middle of the circle and then fall directly backwards in unison when the ball lands on the ground as if a hand grenade has exploded." Sounds pretty innocent to me.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 9:11 p.m.

Sorry - - I meant to give credit to Wikipedia

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 8:28 p.m.

Obviously he took the celebration as a taunt to his team without realizing that this was their practice celebration. The OSU-UM game is so emotional that I can see why he would think it was taunting. I certainly don't think it was bad but now it may have awoken a sleeping giant for next year. Interesting though that you guys think your fans are so much more respectful and better than ours. I was at the game Saturday and got verbally abused on and off the entire day. I don't wine about it as it is part of the rivalry. Talk about respect- a michigan fan had a sign on Saturday that read "Sandusky and Tressel in 2012" . This is disrepectful first of all to the victims that had to endure that and second of all a few tattoos compared to sexual abuse-- doesn't even compare. Way to keep it classy Ann Arbor!!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 10:59 p.m.

That was a Buckeye fan disguised as a Wolverine fan

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 9:11 p.m.

I don't think that our fans are so much more respectful and better than Ohio but I too have witnessed this type of behavior for the past 7 years. I agree that the sign about Sandusky and Tressel is ridiculous and not fair to the victims but we all know that's not every fan. But this is part of the reason that it's called The Greatest Rivalry in all of sports! Ann Arbor is MUCH better that Columbus though!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 7:45 p.m.

Poor wittle bwuckeyes.... i feel so bad for them having to endure the better team celebrating their victory. I love how they are angry about our celebrations yet we have endured 7 years of the "O" hand gesture in the camera. What a crock. Let's compare schools.. Academics - not even close, advantage Michigan. Athletics- see above Class- see above lack of cheating- see above lack of crybabies who should have let their play do the talking- see above.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 6:46 p.m.

I can't believe that Ohio is making such a big deal over this. To insist that Michigan was disrespectful was disrespectful in and of itself. If roles were reversed, one can only imagine what the celebration would have been for them. Who cares what the celebration was!! What did they expect, us showing support for them?!?!? This is the greatest rivalry in sports and when you win against your rivals, you celebrate like you just beat your rivals. Ohio fans need to get over the fact that you're not the same team anymore and accept the fact that you lost to a better Michigan football team. But I guess I do understand wanting to be upset over something like celebration because there isn't anything more important than a win celebration! Hail To The Victors!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 6:22 p.m.

This is hilarious. OSU fans/players complaining about a lack of class. Save us the hymnals, cooler poopers

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 6:15 p.m.

Al Borges is interested in a head coaching position ? Awesome.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:53 p.m.

"Meyer will become one of the highest paid coaches in college football, along with Alabama's Nick Saban, Oklahoma's Bob Stoops and Texas' Mack Brown. The school says he will receive a six-year contract that pays $4 million annually, plus another $2.4 million total in "retention payments." He also can qualify for supplemental bonuses". Supplemental bonuses?...Yeah, u know um, by doing little things that Tressel failed to, um, get away...wink, wink! Hey the OSU, focus on cleaning up the whole stinking and stewing mess in Columbus first before you can post in here. Now take this shovel and clean it up.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:08 p.m.

It's amazing the degree of response (63 so far) the gernade drop has generated. Let's get real... 1) Traditions are part of college FB and contribute to the fun. Few have the majesty and dignity of dotting the "I" in Script Ohio. I'm not sure of the symbolism of the Michigan team "blowing up." I saw it on TV and no explanation was given. When I heard it was a gernade being dropped, I thought is was weird... albeit harmless. Actually, I took it to be a put-down of Blue. Your team "blows up." 2) In this age of terrorism and our troops facing foes on two fronts, personally, I wonder how the idea of a gernade being dropped was interpretted by our troops. 3) What, if any, is the symbolism of the gernade drop? 4) What was DR's gesture about being spoon-fed supposed to mean? 5) Given the intensity of THE GAME, I expect Buckeye players to be offended by anything Blue did after Saturday. They'll get over that. What the Buckeye Nation won't get over is the score. We're still sore about 1969. Look out next year!!!

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 10:04 p.m.

What was the symbolism of the OSU players tearing down the U-M banner at the start of the 1973 game?

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 2:22 p.m.

Script Ohio = overrated, snore-fest. And the self-proclaimed (which is pathetic) "best damn band in the land" wears Monica Lewinsky berets. I think the spoon-fed thing was something about Michigan eating Ohio's lunch while they cried in the corner about it, something like that. 40-34!!!!! Read'em and weep, bro!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 9:34 p.m.

The spoon feeding thing was being performed by more players than just DRob. They just had the camera on him more. And it didn't originate at the tohio game either. They were doing it against Nebraska as well. I also saw it in an NFL game this last sunday. Don't know if they copied it from the Michigan team or vice versa. Either way, don't get your panties in a bunch.'s spelled g-r-e-n-a-d-e.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 6:52 p.m.

I can't believe that you are comparing that to the troops that are supporting our country!! That in fact, is disrespectful to our troops and to suggest that it was related to them is outrageous! To answer your questions: 1) No one cares about Script Ohio 2) I've already addressed this in the above comment 3) The symbolism is that we just blew up your winning streak against us 4) He's eating up your defense, which as I'm sure you saw, he did 5) We're offended that you went back to 1969. Time to let go of the past and after Saturday, Michigan fans have already forgotten about the past and the streak Ohio had.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 6:24 p.m.

also, the spoon feeding thing has been going on for a while. The team is hungry for a win and they are eating. it has nothing to do with anyone but themselves. stop being so egocentric, buckeye nation.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 6:24 p.m.

really, this is inappropriate because of terrorism? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:10 p.m.

Are you kidding me??? Ohio State complaining about Michigan celebrating the win Saturday? Michigan fans have had 7 years of OSU fans and teams sticking it in our faces, so they can stick it!!! Now that they hired Urban Meyer, OSU fans are already starting to talk smack. We'll beat him too just like in the Capitol One Bowl, when he stood on the sidelines acting smug. I remember his comments in 2006 on how Michigan didn't deserve a rematch in the championship game. Even the great Tebow couldn't save him vs Michigan in the Cap One Bowl. Great win Michigan and GO BLUE FOREVER!!!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 9:56 p.m.

Absolutely. At work yesterday, I heard a whole bunch of people saying that now Urban Meyer is their coach, they are going to win national champions, one after the other! They call us arrogant! RIGHT!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:18 p.m.

His comments are why I have no respect for him and now we see why Urban is a perfect match for Ohio; a lack of integrity.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:07 p.m.

Those buckeye fans who whine about UM should whine about their unhealthy obsession with their "anything goes" attitude with the Buckeye football program which allowed cheaters & hypocrites to flourish in first place. Your first priority is to request the NCAA to issue a death penalty to the football program to cleanse itself for a couple of years and your second priority is to refrain from whining about Michigan, period. You also should never post in here unless you apologize first for Tressel, car dealerships, tattoo parlors, players like Pryor & Clarett, and atrocious fans like yourselves before you proceed to ask us if you should post in here. Otherwise, we don't want your stained ilk in here for time being, period. TiM

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:04 p.m.

Maybe next year tohio will be proactive and hire themselves a grief counselor prior to their game with us. What the heck...put him on the payroll. They're gonna need him as long as they retain the coach that never beat Michigan. That one's in the bag. Now let's move on to the BCS

To osu, get a grip. You want to stop any celebration, then stop a team from scoring 40 on you. You have no room to talk. As far as looking for a mea culpa from Mi, good luck. This is the school that still thinks their major violations aren't major violations because they are Meechigan. But really who cares about a grenade celebration....the best reward is the one the player in the above picture is getting from that brown haired beauty.

Boom Herron@ 37 yards, B Miller@ 100 yards, (mostly running for his life.) 4 QB sacks. If I am supposedly to impressed with Zack Boren, it just ain't happenin' fella. So, as an ohioian, from Lorain, my response to you, AND, Zack Boren, is, with all sincereity , 'KISS MY BUCKEYE!' ...We'll do what we darn well please after the game. So, if you don't like it, shut up, get on the bus, and get out.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 2:24 p.m.

Taboo, You want to hear about respectful fans at Ohio? I went to a game at the Shoe back when Henson was the QB and I was wearing a block M hat. Ohio fans were shouting, RIGHT IN MY FACE, "What does the M stand for? MORON! MORON!" This went on the entire way my friend and I walked to the stadium. It was even worse afterwards when Michigan won. Fans were following us with the same 'classy' taunts, but this time they were stepping in front of us and trying to cut us off, as if trying to start a fight. Luckily we found a large cluster of UM fans before we got mobbed. This season, my cousin went to the game with his daughter. Here are a sampling of the 'classy' taunts those fans gave during the game: "Hoke is a fat @SS!" and "Stab Denard in the neck!" "Tear his F@#$ing head off!" mixed in with every other curse word in the book. Really? Those are not only classless taunts, they are completely ignorant and reflect poorly on the entire OSU fan base. My cousin actually left with his daughter after the first quarter because of the ridiculous language and taunts, even towards his daughter. But of course UM's celebrating amongst themselves for a victory 7 years in the making is the true classless act here. Give me a break.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 9:53 p.m.

Amen! I can TOTALLY understand that. My kids suffered the same crap from these so called "classy" ohio fans.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:11 p.m.

This is exactly why some of us are proposing that the Buckeyes should be kicked out of B1G due to this reason among a myriad of reasons. I love playing against the best but it wasn't the best but the worst of humanity that has and currently emanates from Columbus.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 12:59 p.m.

The Buckeye nation needs to get over the loss and get a life. We have seen plenty of "disrespectful" antics from your players/fans in the past. I can really understand why so many think that many of the fans for suckeyes are aholes. It's to bad Fickell was put in the situation he was...what a raw deal. Can't hardly wait for Slurpin Meyer to take over the reigns. The lies have already started. He wants everyone to think he left Florida for health reasons....I think not.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 12:47 p.m.

UM owes an apology to The Ohio State University and the Buckeye fans for the disrespectful manner in which Hoke and his players mocked OSU leading up to the game, during the game and at the conclusion. However, such an apology is not to be expected from UM.

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 10:06 p.m.

First, OSU needs to apologize to U-M for tearing down the banner in the 1973 game.

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 2:04 p.m.

Those poor buckeyes had their feelings hurt. I'm guessing they went straight to their moms place after the game for a warm mug of milk, some cookies and mom-hugs. I'm hoping Denard will deliver, in person, this owed apology next year in Columbus, with another five touchdown-winning game. 40-34! Go Blue!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 2:44 p.m.

Hey, GoBucks... put down the crack pipe and just GoAway.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 2:11 p.m.

GoBucks, You're WAY overreacting to a simple celebration that was not in any way aimed at the Buckeyes. It was UM players celebrating amongst themselves and there just happened to be some Ohio players nearby. OSU players and fans are simply frustrated and don't enjoy seeing Michigan celebrate a victory over their/your beloved Bucks. It's been 7 years in the making, these kids were excited and celebrated TOGETHER meaning no disrespect to anyone. If anyone owes an apology, it's Boren and whoever that other unknown player are that AIMED their assaults at Michigan. However, not only does UM not expect an apology, they don't care one bit if they get one. Michigan is too busy basking in the glory of victory.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 1:47 p.m.

You mean that Ohio State and it's fans owe Michigan an apology for being a worthless, sorry, under-educated group of underachieving whiners that wouldn't know the meaning of the word Class it it was tatooed on every single one of thier foreheads OHIO= National Landfill

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 12:46 p.m.

I could honestly care less what the Suckeyes think.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 12:16 p.m.

The Boren brothers - also known as Judas I and Judas II, are not credible authorities on anything that involves the University of Michigan. They have at last slithered into their Buckeye hole, now that justice has finally arrived. Urban Meyer will quickly become known as Tressell Jr. - since he has a way about him that will NOT be popular in Ann Arbor. I seriously doubt if any Big 10 teams truly respect the OHIO way of handling sticky situatioins. I am thoroughly disappointed with Gordon Gee and the entire Ohio football program. It stinketh greatly!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 10:33 a.m.

For the Ohio State fans and players, deal with it. They are kids, having fun after a victory. Don't tell me Ohio State players haven't done anything disrespectful in the past. How about the time in the 1970's when the Ohio State team ran under the M Go Blue banner. That's just one example. I sense a little anger by the Buckeyes. That's why as Michigan fans and players, we get up for "The Game". It's fun and enjoyable. I believe that the Ohio State players are a little frustrated they lost and their 6-6 season, as I am sure their fans are as well. I'm sure they will be back with Urban Meyer as their new head coach. This will make the rivalry more fun for all players and fans of both teams. We'll see you next year Ohio State at the horseshoe. This rivalry at times goes in cycles. Remember, the 1980's and 1990's when John Cooper went 2-10-1 against Michigan. Ohio St. had their cycle. Doesn't mean there will be a cycle again anytime soon. Just remember the big fact, Michigan has more wins in the series. Ohio St, you have some catching up to do. To give you credit, your 7 wins caught you up, but you're not there yet.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 8:23 a.m.

Too funny and I agree with other posters above. These Buckeyes absolutely showed no class when they stopped by The Tarnished Vested One's to hear his pep talk last Friday. Then after the game, some of the buckeyed players showed why they are crybabies with their comments because they lost to UM. Hoke and the UM team will remember that disrespect from them and will use it to their advantage. If the 6-6 season doesn't humble them then B1G should kick them out and replace them with the real Ohio team, the Ohio University Bobcats (9-3). GO BLUE! Caps off to the Wolverines for their successful season.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 7:03 a.m.

That player getting the hug from the cheerleader looks pretty happy. Life is beautiful.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 6:53 a.m.

Justin Boren is known for having showed up at one of Coach Carr's annual charity "Carr Wash" events in an SUV pulling a boat & trailer. When his TEAMMATES finished washing Boren's car, Boren drove off with leaving any donation. That kind of arrogance and coldness was his trademark at Michigan and the real reason for his running off. That's the "class" of the Boren brothers. So it figures his self-aggrandizing little brother is full of accusations over nothing. One bad apple can spoil the barrel and that's what seems to have happened to the current barrel of Buckeyes. With a seasoned crew of seniors led by Denard Robinson and a crop of top recruits and underclassmen, Hoke's Wolverines will be "insulting" Urb's Buckeyes again next year and probably for years to come. Sure hope so, there can't be a more deserving bunch than that Ohio "team."

"UM was very childish and foolish to pull this stunt in front of The OSU players who were hurting from the loss. This insult guarantees that UM's teams will have a tough row to hoe in any future games with OSU. Too bad that Hoke does not understand the consequences from this child like stunt."-GoBucks Get that UM fans? From now the Wolves will have a tough "row to hoe" in future games with OSU. If the team hadn't had the temerity to actually celebrate its victory in front of the OSU guys who were "hurting" from the loss, all the future UM-OSU would have been a duck walk. But, now, they're MAD. Guess UM should have silently walked off the field, cowering in the wake of the majestic Buckeyes, daring not to cast a gaze on the team "hurting" from the loss. Given the outrage the "hurting' Buckeyes are feeling, I can only assume that UM should have checked the tape to see the proper way to act after beating OSU. Plenty of tape to look at this year: Miami, MSU, Nebraska, Purdue, Penn State. Too bad UM couldn't kick OSU's butt and celebrate the PROPER way, as these other 5 teams evidently did. Hopefully, Taylor, Denard, Fitz, and the other 13 returning starters will be able to choke back the terror when they find out prime time studs Zac Boren and Brad Roby fired off angry tweets. Lucky for UM those two weren't mad BEFORE Saturday, otherwise they might have actually done something on the field to help OSU win. Priceless.

Coach Hoke's response was perfect and totally appropriate as well as true to its core. Kids being kids having fun. Let em have their fun they earned it. This is Michigan. Go Blue

And, then there was Denard Robinson running around and grinning as he made motions of spoon feeding himself. Very tacky behavior which I have not witnessed from any other opponent of The Ohio State University. Hoke's continual disrespectfully reference to The Ohio State University "Ohio"; the spoon feeding antics by Denard; and, the "grenade" stunt, ensures that your team may not win another game against The Buckeyes for some time to come. These stunts, designed to deliberately insult the Ohio State University, its team and fans, must reflect the "new era" of Hoke football at UM.

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 10:15 p.m.

"Hoke's continual disrespectfully reference to The Ohio State University "Ohio"; " No worse than Woody Hayes calling Michigan "that place to the north."

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 10:13 p.m.

We insulted Ohio State more than Jim Tressels? WOW!

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 10:08 p.m.

All that behavior pales in comparison to the behavior of Tressels lying to the NCAA.

Thank God "ohio" has only three letters in it. Else tosu fans would be able to spell it. Good Night and Good Luck

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 5:36 p.m.

Why don't you go away and cry somewhere. It is apparent you have picked the wrong forum and for that matter the wrong school.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 8:35 a.m.

Oh, c'mon. "I don't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan...I'm from O-hi-O" It's supposed to be a rivalry, for goodness sake. Lighten up :)

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 5:47 a.m.

How come in your last line you didn't capitalize the The in "The Ohio State University?" Sounds like an insult to me! I see the "spoon feeding" as homage to the fact that UM was hungry for a win. Or is everyone supposed to throw in the towel because they are facing The (Almighty) Ohio State University. Maybe we should just throw the game, and get credit for a win when OSU is forced to vacate their wins for violating NCAA rules? Maybe you should tell everyone the proper decorum to use after they defeat OSU, since OSU NEVER celebrates when they win. And hopefully only the final score reflects the "new era" of Hoke football at UM. If the wins continue, UM won't be so hungry for a win, they'll be used to it. The grenade stunt will still be appropriate, if the refs try to hand the game to OSU as they did in this game (see reference to touchdown reversal. Show me the"positive proof" that he was down.) WE don't need to insult The Ohio State University. Its supporters and representatives do a good enough job of that.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 5:04 a.m.

Yeah, since one of the most recognized coaches in Ohio state's history, woody Hayes, referred to michigan as "that school up north". And don't your fans spell Ohio in the stands. Let the players settle their issues on the field, not on the computer.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:50 a.m.

your last name would not happen to be Boren would it? boo hoo

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:34 a.m.

Hey, Zach. They HADN'T won before, at least not against OSU. After the touchdown reversal (looked like a blatant betting line call), it looked like they had dodged a bullet. With any luck, maybe OSU will see how it feels in seven or eight years. Then we will see how OSU reacts. Hey Roby, to avoid losing to "those scrubs," are you gonna pull a Terelle and leave school early to avoid punishment for YOUR classless acts?

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:19 a.m.

The entire Boren family are a bunch of crybabies.

I'm glad to see Brady Hoke continuing to show integrity and not feeling a need to apologize for something that obviously needs no apology. Backbone and integrity, a great combination.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:43 a.m.

All teams celebrate their victory; however, some teams love to mock their opponent and rub the victory in their faces - UM has such a team. The Ohio State University team and fans have already noted that this slight will not be forgotten next November. UM was very childish and foolish to pull this stunt in front of The OSU players who were hurting from the loss. This insult guarantees that UM's teams will have a tough row to hoe in any future games with OSU. Too bad that Hoke does not understand the consequences from this child like stunt.

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 10:10 p.m.

Remember the 1973 game, when your "classy" bucks tore down the U-M banner?

Wed, Nov 30, 2011 : 11:16 a.m.

Lets sort it out next year in the shoe...Michigan will be there.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 11:19 p.m.

Trisha, what a shame and did the security do anything about those clowns? Man, AD Brandon and B1G better do something like screening out the Buckeye fans from entering any of the opponents stadiums. I have seen too many similar antics from the buckeye fans and had defended myself and others once (knocking two to the floor before being separated by an alert cop). Ask any other B1G team around and you will see OSU fans as #1 (worst behaved).

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 9:40 p.m.

I live here and the disrespect from your fans is immeasurable. For our guys to celebrate a GREAT win over your team was a beautiful thing to watch! I took my 7, 9, and 11 year old sons to a game here, and YOUR fans SPIT ON MY CHILDREN! THREW POP, BEER, ETC. ON MY CHILDREN, THREATENED MY CHILDREN AND ME!! Go crawl back in your corner and sulk because you are being just as classless as they ALWAYS HAVE BEEN to Michigan Fans. We love our program EVERY BIT as much as you do yours. GO BLUE!!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:20 p.m.

"The osu team and fans have already noted that this slight will not be forgotten next November." Are they going to change their ways and act with a little class for a change? As a visiting fan at a game at osu I was threatened and constantly called names that would not be allowed on this board. I witnessed some "classy" osu fans on a street near the stadium run up to an older couple in Michigan attire, get in there way, and scream "f* * * y* * blue b*t*h" over and over right in the woman's face. I was even told by a Notre Dame official when I was at a game there that your classy osu fans urinated on the church on campus there. Your team has planted flags on an opponents' fields, torn down banners in opponents' stadiums, a coach of yours struck an opposing player during a game, and on and on and on. While all teams have a few fans who go too far, yours has huge contingent that not only embarrass your school but the whole conference. Michigan's celebration pales in comparison.

c'mon, GoBucks. It wasn't a taunt, intended to rub anyone's nose in the dirt. I don't like the taunts on this thread, however. From M fans, too. They are below the standards of this usually first class discussion board.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 5:05 a.m.

Yeah what Matt said. No really, take it as a compliment to your great program that we finally beat you cause you couldn't play cheatin' players and all.

Matt Patercsak

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:26 a.m.

imagine 7 years of "hurting from the loss" then lets talk they didnt mock anyone. they didnt disrespect anyone they celebrated as a team because know...beat Ohio we're not going anywhere. were going to continue to improve. so yeah, we will see you next year. we have 6 more years to avenge

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:03 a.m.

Are we supposed to be scared? We kicked your butts and we'll do it again. Your player calling Michigan 'scrubs' is classless and bulletin board material. Boren has a lot of nerve to open his trap after what his traitor brother did. Bring your "consequences"...UM is ready.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:35 a.m.

You've gotta understand....those tohio players stood to be showered with 'gifts' if they would have won, not to mention they were de-(gold) pantsed by losing. There's alot of bitterness there. Just not much maturity on their part.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:59 p.m.

Exactly! No truth to the rumor that the sign 'Those who say will get PAID' is coming down in the THE OH-LYE STATE locker room.

Matt Patercsak

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:28 a.m.

zach boren never had respect for the wolverines. he's been on the winning side for the last few seasons he's been apart of the teams that blew out Michigan in the last few years and Michigan finally beats them, does a celebration not attacking, mocking, or disrespecting anybody, and he says he's "lost all respect" for them? give me a break just because you werent offered a scholarship to Michigan and your big brother bailed on the university is no reason to cry when the skinny little wimp you push around finally hits puberty and beats the hell out of you. what a cry baby. zach boren was once high in my eyes among NCAA football players simply because of his toughness, but not anymore. it is I who has lost respect for him. btw, i dont think zach is going to find much playing time in urban meyers new spread. maybe thats why he's sour! bring on the Karma! we'll see you in the horseshoe!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:05 a.m.

Love it!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 3:14 a.m.

Hey TC, I guess you were responding to my Boren comment that got deleted, but basically I was just stating that on another blog, good ole Boren was acting up on film too, what a hypocrite. Rightmind, you sure spend a lot of time on our threads/blogs.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 2:48 a.m.

Buckeyes with all their scandals, tatoo's, trading of OSU items, not telling the truth, covering up, and on and on, need something to bitch about. I hope someone slugs Boren in the chops. He is all talk on twitter and to the newspapers, but does nothing in the games. Big cry baby!!!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 2:20 a.m.

Ouch....sounds like some poor losers ! Get a life, celebrating any win is special - and harmlessly on your home field ! Bad taste is planting a flag on opposing teams fields (osu did), ripping down the victors banner before Michigan came out on the field (osu did), a coach running out on the field and hitting an opposing player (osu did), or maybe berating a winners celebration upon getting your butts kicked (osu did). MgoBlueForTiM.............Michigan, the Champions and the best.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 9:31 p.m.

How about the dogs sniffing our team in Columbus when they arrived at their stadium (osu did)!! You're right...a bunch of poor losers!

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 4:07 a.m.

Champions over the entire state of Ohio.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 2:36 a.m.

Champions of what? When was the last B10 championship? You shared a mythical NC in the last century. It should say........Michigan, we are learning how to win.

Tue, Nov 29, 2011 : 2:24 a.m.

exactly! I think they should do it whenever they go undefeated in all home games.

Additionally, good coaches teach manners, respect and discipline - you won't see any comments of disrespect from Hoke's Men.
