Preseason poll makes Nebraska the favorite in Big 12 North

By AnnArbor.com Staff

DALLAS (AP) — Nebraska has been picked to leave the Big 12 in style.

The Cornhuskers, who are bolting for the Big Ten in 2011, are the unanimous choice to repeat as Big 12 North champions in the league's preseason media poll.

Oklahoma was picked to win the South division in the poll released by the league on Wednesday.

Nebraska, which lost a heartbreaker to Texas in last year's Big 12 title game, received all 26 first-place votes from media members who cover the league. The Sooners got 16 first-place votes in the South, while the Longhorns received the other 10 votes.

Missouri was picked second in the North, followed by Kansas State, Kansas, Colorado and Iowa State. Texas A&M was picked to finish third in the South. Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Baylor round out the South field.

Agree Jason Watson....love the enthusiasm mgolueold has, and as you know enthusiasm is the real positive of being a Michigan faithful....on the other hand, Jaxon5 shows much fantasy comments, and as you know is the real negative (aka - never gonna happen) fictional unfaithful... I enjoy very much reading all the very positive Michigan faithful comments in this column, and also enjoy laughing at the fantasy comments - yes laughter is the best medicine. Fortunately, Michigan won't need it's best day to beat neb, osu, psu, and iowa - just show up..! That 08' Wisconsin pounding still hurts many people! Truth is, Michigan wins a minimum 10 games this season....and that is reality.

JW - UM on its best day over the last 2 years could not beat Nebraska. Honestly, I cannot think of one performance that would allow them to beat Nebraska, OSU, PSU, or Iowa. ( Wisconsin in 2008 was not a UM win, but a Wisconsin loss).

mgobluegold, I love your enthusiasm but lets take one game at a time. 12 victories for this team would be difficult, however I do think they will do much better than what most people are saying. I wish Nebraska a great send-off in the Big 12. I hope they win the whole thing because next year they come to play the big boys. Jaxon5, I'm pretty sure the new U of M in 2011 will be anything but Nebraska's door mat. Nebraska's current success will drop a bit in 2011 as their current team will be gone and U of M will be hitting on all cylinders. Michigan wins that game in 2011 and they will do it well!!!!!!

Agree with Jaxon5, "UM would have provided great competition for Nebraska", unfortunately now, UM will just destroy them all over the field - no contest at all, must admit on them coming to the B10 though, Michigan will look much better nationally with both Nebraska and OSU behind them in the standings. GoBlue, 5 weeks until the start of 12-13 victories, whoop-whoop!!!!!

I welcome Nebraska to the Big 10. They've had a great football tradition, a very good academic school, they'll be a great addition to the B10.

The old UM would have provided great competition for Nebraska. The new UM will be a nice doormat on which Cornhuskers will wipe their feet. It's going to be a very long season in 2011.

Great...let them have one last good year....then they will have to take a back seat to Michigan in the Big Ten, but they'll stay well ahead of ohio state....

I have always been impressed with Nebraska and I have always liked them. I will always pick Mich as my first choice but now there will be another team in the big 10 that I will root for.
