UMass will join the Mid-American Conference as a football-only member, school officials plan to announce Wednesday in a press conference.

The Minutemen, who went 6-5 in 2010, including a 42-37 loss to Michigan on Sept. 18, will move from the Colonial Athletic Association to become the 14th member of the MAC. UMass will remain a FCS-level school in 2011 and play a full MAC schedule in 2012 and won't be eligible for MAC-championship games until the 2013 season, ESPN reported.
