Mobiata grows in downtown Ann Arbor's Nickels Arcade
Ann Arbor-based mobile software developer Mobiata has more than doubled its workforce after being acquired by travel website Expedia Inc. in December 2010, Concentrate Media reports.

Mobiata, founded by Ben Kazez, now has 38 employees.

The company develops mobile applications for Expedia’s brands, such as the Expedia Hotels application that gives users an easy way to scroll through hotels and book stays. The company also developed FlightTrack, which helps travelers keep tabs on flight itineraries, gate changes and other flight details.
Last year, Mobiata quadrupled its Nickels Arcade office space when it moved into a 1,600-square-foot space down the hall with the goal of hiring additional employees.
The company has grown from 17 employees one year ago, to 38 employees and a few interns today, with the majority based at its Ann Arbor office, Concentrate reported.
As Expedia expands its mobile marketing and application development, Kazez said he expects those employment numbers to continue to rise — with Ann Arbor serving as the base for the company's growth.

So cool! I love FlightTrack and FlightBoard! Must have located in Nickles to be so close to Comet.

I hope the people hired are actually getting some equity in the business. But I suppose that boat has long since sailed...

It's great to see Ann Arbor businesses grow. I sincerely hope Mr. Kazez is doing the community a service by hiring some of the highly qualified individuals our local community has to offer.
