Images from Ann Arbor Art Fair 2013: Summer Art Fair

By Melanie Maxwell

The Ann Arbor Art Fair rolled into its second day Thursday, under hot conditions but mostly sunny skies. These photos come from the Summer Art Fair, sponsored by the Guild of Artists and Artisans and one of the four fairs that run concurrently. The event continues through Saturday; find full coverage here.

With heat like this they should stay open later into the night. I was there last night & the sun was going down & it was starting to cool (a bit) but everyone was closing down...too bad.

While I certainly don't condone "unethical" pet behavior, having photographed and meet these animals today, I didn't see that they were in any obvious distress. Our resident pet and animal aficionado Lorrie Shaw offered up her take on pets, heat and art fair here: http://bit.ly/12PH3hj

you were around the people and their pets for 5 minutes while taking their pictures, how do you know how the dogs were an hour later?

Whatever title you want to attach to "Lorrie Shaw", she doesn't have a clue about responsible pet care in 100 degree heat.

The proof is in the pictures as to why some people should not be allowed to have children or pets !

Some nice shots, but skip the pet photos. No one should bring a pet to the Art Fair. The photos show how thin the crowds are, due to the heat. We have never seen so few visitors as last night. WAY too hot. Maybe a break in the weather will come Friday and it will cool down on Sat. Also, we noticed more commercial artists and more commercial booths selling things like CDs, etc. Sign of the times, I guess. With high fees, the more unique artists are priced out unless they are very well established.

I'm sorry to be negative, but all the spelling errors in this set of photos really bother me. Where are the editors?

Thanks for your patience! We try to get galleries up as quick as possible and occasionally don't have a chance to review the captions right away.

Perhaps the ASPCA should consider sending representatives to the next art fair to educate people on ethical pet ownership.

Why would anyone bring a child or pet to Art Fair?

Too many pictures of irresponsible pet owners and their poor, overheated beasts.
