By Lee Higgins

A man convicted of beating his girlfriend to death with a hammer last year near an Ypsilanti park was sentenced Wednesday in Washtenaw County Circuit Court to life in prison without parole.

Dominic Oyerinde, 21, was convicted of felony first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Anna List after a bench trial last month.

He also was convicted of carjacking. Police said Oyerinde attacked List early Jan. 13, 2009 outside Ypsilanti's Recreation Park, hitting her twice in the head with a hammer he grabbed from her van.

List, a senior at Huron High School in Ann Arbor, was in a coma for about a week before she died.

This is so sad, my thoughts and prayers go to the family of the young lady that was beaten and killed. The killer? Life in prison is not enough. (unless he cleans toilets 24/7).

Such a sad story of what appears to be a thoughtful, bright, caring young lady whose life was ended by a selfish coward who fractured her skull by hitting her in the back of her head with a hammer. Dominic I wish you the very best on your new career path.
