Michigan athletic director Bill Martin apologizes for alleged incidents
Michigan athletic director Bill Martin is apologetic for his behavior in two incidents that led to the filing of a police report in October, according to the Detroit News and the Michigan Daily.
Bill Martin
"I contacted those involved to discuss the situation and express my regret." Martin said Monday in a statement released by the Michigan athletic department. "I know they were just doing their jobs."

Yes, their boss! Martin is responsible to oversee security of all sports facilities. If someone was injured severely in an attack at any of the facilities, everybody would be after Martins job. The AD is the man in charge of all the sports facilities, security better get to know their boss! Power trip, ignorant or not properly trained as we see a lot of lately at U of M. The whole thing is blown out of proportion as usual. Get a life and get over it. He was wrong so lets convene a grand jury and call in the FBI. Oh don't forget the ACLU and he is damned lucky the persons grabbed were not a minority or we would have to expand our investigation list. How many filthy rich people do you know that are not arrogant or self centered when it comes to someone questioning their status? I know, you know a bunch. The man worked hard for the position so if he is a jerk, we move him out of the office and find somebody everybody likes (fat chance)! Until he's gone treat the man with respect Gate employees should be trained to know who is allowed in and who is not. The list is for guests. If he pushes and grabs employees, there are way's to handle those incidents. Coverage on UPI and national news is not one of them. If the man is punished it will be up to the University President and now the police. Stop whining and let the system work.

Well, I guess the myth of a 'Michigan Man' has been finally put to rest. Here is the AD of a program that prides itself on having a higher integrity and professionalism that any other in the history of college sports. It is the keystone to the heritage of Michigan football. And what do we have?! 1.) The AD grabbing, pushing and harassing students who are doing their job of security while displaying pure arrogance; 2.) Michigan fans berating the students and making excuses for despicable behavior; and 3.) The University doing nothing about it. Anyone else does this and what is the University's response?? They would be immediately banned from the stadium. The Michigan fans, administration and staff should be embarrassed.

jcorsican..are u serious? he's made alot of improvements in the athletic department. New bball coach that got us back to the tourney, new weight training equipment to put us on par with the elite programs, the new additions to michigan stadium, and lastly in these economic times he is keeping michigan profitable while other higher profile schools (success wise of late that is) are operating in the red. Hate Bill for Tommy Amaker, but to say he hasn't done anything is ignorant

"security better get to know their boss" According to the story security is essentially subcontracted from DPS. The original article states "Both employees - one is a student at U-M and the other is a student at Eastern Michigan University - are assigned to special assignments through the campus Department of Public Safety." So Bill Martin is NOT their boss. Somebody at DPS is. On any given Saturday I would bet there are a half dozen Bill Martin "look alikes" that would make it difficult for most of us to pick the real Bill out of a line up.

This is so messed up, on so many levels, that it's hard to know where to start, BUT....the U of M AD is supposed to be the leader, so let's start there. Martin is arrogant, self serving, egotistical, and exemplifies all of the bad characteristics that Michigan's detractors point to most often, and (as a 3rd generation alumni) I am overjoyed to see him gone. He has done nothing to improve either the quality of the institution or its athletic programs during his tenure, and apparently doesn't see the need to know or comply with the policies of his own organization. Frankly, I'm ashamed of him as a Wolverine, and as a sailor. Hey Bill, don't let the door hit you on the backside on your way out!

These kids were doing their jobs. Period. BM should have known better, and should simply have treated fellow human beings with respect. Period. Leadership by example. Leaders and the best indeed.

Security is on a power trip or a stupid trip. The AD is the man in charge of all the sports facilities, security better get to know their boss. I can just see some security dude try and stop Joe Pa at the Penn State gate, or Vince Dooley or Bear Bryant. Power trip, ignorant or not properly trained as we see a lot of lately at U of M. Come on Mary Sue, don't have your AD treated like a no body!

Bill Martin should have known that this is the age of the fragile, politically correct O bots who run to the press with their trivial, childish, self esteem bruising problems. The idea that the AD is banned from a "secure area" because he does not have "proper credentials" is moronic and these kids should have been fired for such poor judgment. Ironically, UM is well known for creating these sad creatures.

From the Detroit News story -- Khan, according to the report, said Martin became "upset" and used his right hand to grab Khan's windbreaker in the chest and pushed him slightly. Khan said Martin then told him, "I am the athletic director, I can go in," but Khan said Martin needed the proper credential. At that point, according to the report, Martin grabbed the identification badge that was hanging around Khan's neck and Martin said, "I want to know your name." A University Development Events staff member then identified Martin as the athletic director and he was allowed to enter.
