Michigan field hockey blanks Penn State, Ezurike hat trick leads U-M women's soccer

Sophomore Rachael Mack scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the Michigan field hockey team to a 2-0 win over No. 6-ranked Penn State Sunday at Ocker Field.

With the win, the No. 10 Wolverines (11-3, 3-1) move into a first-place Big Ten Conference tie with the Nittany Lions (11-4, 3-1).

Mack, who had a hat trick against Penn State in last year's Big Ten tournament semifinals, deflected a Bryn Bain shot into the goal in the 43rd minute for a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Mack added an insurance goal on an assist from Pioneer High School graduate Emy Guttman.

Another Pioneer grad, Haley Jones, was called on to make just one save while recording her sixth career shutout for Michigan.

WOMEN'S SOCCER Michigan 3, Purdue 1: Michigan sophomore forward Nkem Ezurike made up for the time she missed after sitting out a 2-0 loss at Michigan State on Wednesday by scoring three consecutive goals on Sunday. After a scoreless first half, Ezurike tallied goals in the 63rd, 81st and 86th minutes. She missed the MSU game after receiving her fifth yellow cards of the season. (Details)

Western Michigan 1, Eastern Michigan 0 (2OT): The Broncos' Brittney Pavlica scored the game's lone goal in the 109th minute, snapping the Eagles' two-game winning streak. (Details)

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY NCAA Pre-Nationals: Led by Rebecca Addison's 18th-place finish, Michigan finished third in the team standings. The No. 18-ranked Wolverines finished with 158 points, two points better than the No. 4 Colorado. No. 3 Florida State (46) and No. 5 Georgetown (99) finished 1-2. (Details)
