Is there ever too much of a good thing? We decided to ask that very question of the Bomber Restaurant in Ypsilanti as part of our quest for the best breakfast joint in Washtenaw County. Two ace breakfast eaters—AnnArbor.com cops and courts reporter Kyle Feldscher and sports director Pete Cunningham—set out to take on the Bomber Breakfast challenge.

What's the Bomber Breakfast, you ask? Only four eggs, a pound and half of hash browns or American fries, 10 pieces of bacon, and a toast selection of your choosing.

Can the guys stretch their bellies enough to finish the plate? Watch to find out. And if you haven't already, vote in the poll for the area's best breakfast joint.

Yes Kdx I did ask if this was an error. I was told it was not an error, and that it did cost money to heat water. About two weeks later I called the Bomber and asked if they still charge for hot water, and was told yes they do.

It would have been nice to have the address, hours, and cost somewhere easy to see.

They, The Bomber, charged me $1.71 for a cup of hot water. Hot water is what I drink.

This was great. I'm with Pete though on the crispy bacon and the scrambled eggs. One of these is actually enough for four people though. The Bomber has been around forever...named for the bomber plants at Willow Run.

You pay enough for the prescriptions, so why not make your Lipitor or Crestor pills earn their money!

I can't believe Kyle and Pete didn't try the Captain Crunch Waffles too! What I also appreciate about the Bomber is how kind the servers are - just a great atmosphere all around.

MjC, I believe you are referring to the Cap'n Crunch French toast--unless, in their infinite wisdom, the Bomber owners have decided to extend the franchise, so to speak. :) Love the Bomber! But when I go, I get a regular breakfast. Congrats to Kyle and Pete for going for the breakfast gold!

I'm a little uncomfortable just thinking about how full you guys must have been.

I attempted the Bomber breakfast once and didn't even come close. I finished off the eggs and toast before I had them pack the rest of the food up to go. It sustained me for three more meals after that.

Most people share that, or order from many other options. They should have ordered different plates toshow the difference. they have a 2egg breakie also.

In this age of rampant obesity in America, shouldn't there be some ethical responsibility on the part of an establishment not to encourage overindulgence? Even for two people, it seems like a lot of food!

@ligrasp-As it has been stated it is clearly pointed out the amount of food being ordered. Many other choices to be made from the Bombers great menu. We all have to make choices.

Nobody is force feeding them this breakfast. You have a choice. If people are too "weak" to make the right decision for themselves, they have self control issues.

I think Ligrasp makes a good point; however there are other, smaller, breakfast entrees on the menu. Look around, a lot of customers ask for a "doggy box." I love the food, the people and the decor at The Bomber. Great breakfast restaurant; worth the drive to East Michigan Ave in Ypsilanti.

They actually are explicitly telling people what's in that breakfast. It says right on the menu that it's four eggs, a pound of hash browns, and a pound of meat. That's all the information people need to make their own informed decision about whether to eat it by themselves or split it with a friend or two. That should be more than enough "ethical responsibility" to satisfy anyone who doesn't have a DSM-listed disorder causing them to be a control freak about others' conduct.

ligrasp, you're a regular Debbie Downer, aren't you? If people want to overindulge every once in a while, so be it!

seldon

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 5:46 p.m.

Absolutely not. It's not like it isn't obvious how much food this is. People who order it know what they're getting into.

Price?

10.25. Another two bucks for coffee. A steal.

Loving the hug at the end, lol.

Jenn McKee

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 5:04 p.m.

Yes - the bro-hug was a nice final image. I love breakfast foods, but even watching other people eating that much makes me feel a little woozy.

You're a pair of terrific trenchermen, but how long did it take to eat your way through all that? :):):)

Kyle Feldscher

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 3:54 p.m.

It felt like way longer though.

@Lynn Liston, They finished up in just under an hour!

I thought people usually shared that.

Pete Cunningham

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 2:51 p.m.

We shared. I tried a piece of non-crispy bacon, he tried a piece of my crispy. I was satisfied with my choice.

Kyle Feldscher

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 2:05 p.m.

You thought right.

Kyle and Pete's performance was truly epic.

Kyle Feldscher

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 1:24 p.m.

My only piece of advice for anyone trying to do this: The biscuit was delicious, but get toast. Toast would have been so much easier.

Kyle Feldscher

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 1:20 p.m.

Many thanks to the folks at the Bomber Restaurant for their kind service and their encouragement as we neared the finish line. This was my first ever eating challenge type thing and I realize now that I had the right idea. Great food, normal portions from now on!

It should be called breakfast, lunch and dinner for two days.

Kyle Feldscher

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 1:18 p.m.

Yes. Yes, it should. It should definitely not be a one-sitting meal. Trust me on that one.

What do you think, Kyle and Pete: When will you be able to eat hash browns again?

Kyle Feldscher

Mon, Mar 4, 2013 : 1:18 p.m.

At this point, it's like a good break up. I know I'll be able to come to terms with hash browns and accept what they did to me, but right now? Right now it's just too much. Clearly, Pete is a better man than I.

Pete Cunningham

I ate some on Sunday...I'm a trooper/glutton.
