3 people ordered to stand trial on charges related to fatal shooting in Superior Township
Three people charged in the shooting death of a Superior Township man were recently ordered to stand trial, court records show.
Marget Pittman, LaShawn Covington and Larry Hunter were bound over to Washtenaw County Circuit Court following a preliminary hearing last week related to the Jan. 23 shooting.
Police said Hunter, 27, shot Gardner after a fight outside the Sycamore Meadow Apartments in the MacArthur Boulevard neighborhood. The 30-year-old died at the scene.
Washtenaw County Sheriff’s investigators quickly identified Hunter as a suspect and said Pittman, 35, and Covington, her 18-year-old son, had some involvement.
All three surrendered to authorities within days of the shooting after the department issued media alerts seeking their arrests.
Hunter is charged with open murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He remains at the Washtenaw County Jail without bond and is scheduled to appear for a pre-trial hearing on March 31, records show.
Covington is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and remains in custody on $100,000 bond. His pretrial hearing is March 10.
Pittman was charged with one count felonious assault. Prosecutors added counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder following the hearing, records show.
Suspects: Larry Hunter, LaShawn Covington and Marget Pittman.
