Chelsea man pleads guilty in sexual assault case

The 37-year-old man charged with sexually assaulting a woman who was living with him in Chelsea took a plea deal Thursday, according to court records.
Michael Paul Radant pleaded guilty to two added charges of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct in exchange for the dismissal of two third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges, court records indicate.
Assault with intent to commit CSC is a felony with a maximum prison sentence of 10 years. Sentencing is scheduled for May 2 in the Washtenaw County Trial Court.
Radant is accused of sexually assaulting a 37-year-old woman at his home in the 700 block of North Main Street in Chelsea last November. The woman, who is a long-time acquaintance of Radant's, said she had been staying with him in his basement apartment, but that the two were never romantically involved, according to court records.
At a preliminary hearing, the woman testified that Radant sexually forced himself on her in her bedroom.
Radant's family runs Ellie’s Chelsea, a burger and sandwich shop located at 312 N. Main St. in the Clocktower Commons in Chelsea. He has been employed at the restaurant in the past.
Radant's attorney, Brian Montoye, could not immediately be reached for comment.
Radant is free on bond, according to jail records. His bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety at his fall arraignment. It was unclear if he posted the bond, or if the judge changed the bond as part of the plea deal.

II you knew this man, you would know that there is a lot more to this story that you are reading in the press. You do not have to worry about your safety or anyone else's around him.

Apparently knowing him doesn't do you much good. The point is a man was charged and plead guilty in a court of law. When you plead guilty you have to tell the judge/court why you are guilty what did you do, in order for that plea to be accepted. Most people don't plead guilty to a crime, let alone a sexual assault crime if they are innocent. The best thing a person who knows and loves such a person can do is not enable or excuse the behavior, however demand professional help. That's the difference between enabling and helping a person you care about.

She knew him since nursery school that is almost 34yrs. Do you think she should feel safe around him,or that she would safe how he is? He allocated exactly what he did in open cout It's public record,anyone can pay and get a copy to read.

After all the prior story coverage and now this,why is it people are concerned w/the family business,and poor man,and now he pleads guilty yet no one has said or asked anything about the victim.

People are concerned because he walks among us, free on bond. Let's say there was NO coverage of this event, and there were other victims, or victims AFTER this attack that might have been negated by the knowledge of this crime. How would you feel if it was someone you loved that was attacked and it could have been prevented just by having the knowledge to be aware he walks among us? Family business is just that a business that is frequented by the general public, who needs to be aware that you may or may not encounter this person on the streets where we live because he works & lives in the community and was given bond. Its very simple really.

His exposure to the general public being that he cannot control himself? Might not keep people away from the restaurant, is surely warns people of his propensity and his general ware abouts since he is free on bond.
