Pittsfield Township police say toxicology report not complete in fatal shooting

By Amalie Nash

Pittsfield Township police say they're still awaiting a toxicology report in their investigation of a fatal shooting two months ago.

Pittsfield Public Safety Director Matt Harshberger said police have finished investigating the Dec. 2 shooting death of Michael Robert Rajchel in a driveway in the Arbor Creek subdivision.

The shooting occurred Dec. 2 outside this Pittsfield Township home.

But a toxicology report on Rajchel, which was expected to take several weeks, isn't yet complete.

The shooting took place on Rockport Court outside the home of Adham Mofiid Abu Farha, 34. Police previously said the two men were in a vehicle when Rajchel, 28, showed a weapon, and Farha fired multiple shots. Both men were armed.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting, which occurred near a bus stop where about 20 schoolchildren were waiting for the bus.

Farha, who has a concealed weapons permit, was arrested and then released while the investigation is pending.

Washtenaw County prosecutors previously said they wouldn't make a decision on possible criminal charges against Farha until all the reports are complete.

Once police receive the toxicology report, the investigation will be turned over to prosecutors, Harshberger said today.

Does anyone know how long a toxicology report normally takes? The report says several weeks, but it's been almost three months... I have to say, the AAPD has been rather slow on this investigation. As someone who lives within yards of the crime scene, I have to say I've been awaiting news for a final verdict. It would put all our minds to rest here in the neighborhood(at least mine).

Why does the toxicology report matter so much? If someone gets shot does it matter if they were high or not? Is it a matter of confirming the shooter's story?
