Scio Township man accused of sexually assaulting 14-year-old denies charges, headed to trial

A Scio Township man was ordered to stand trial on charges of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl earlier this year.

Samuel Grevious, 37, stood mute to multiple charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and four counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct following a preliminary hearing last week, court records show.

Prosecutors added a second count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct following the girl’s testimony about repeated assaults that began on New Year’s Day in Ann Arbor, officials said.

But his attorney, Nader Nassif, denied the allegations and said Grevious was caught in a bad situation. Nassif said his client was a friend of the girl's mother since high school and was staying at her home when the allegations surfaced.

“He maintains his innocence and feels this was part of a very crazy living situation,” Nassif said.

According to testimony, the girl was forced to have sex with Grevious as part of the living arrangement he established with her mother. The 37-year-old Scio Township woman is also charged with rape and recently adjourned her preliminary hearing to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, court records show. The woman’s name is not being used to help protect the victim’s identity.

Ann Arbor police arrested Grevious using tips from the public in late March after they released his photo to the media.

Grevious’ request for bond was denied, and he remains at the Washtenaw County Jail pending a pre-trial hearing next month. A sentencing hearing for unrelated convictions involving drug possession and operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Pittsfield Township was postponed until May 19, records show.

If the girl's Mom was complicit in these sexual assaults ( as the article seems to imply), I wonder why she too hasnt been arrested and charged for prostituting her 14 yr old daughter.
