Sentence delayed as man convicted in fatal shooting in Superior Township seeks new trial
The sentencing was delayed for an Ypsilanti Township man convicted of murder for shooting another man outside a Superior Township apartment complex earlier this year.
Bob Killewald, the defense attorney for Larry Hunter Jr., told Washtenaw Circuit Judge Archie Brown last week that he needed more time to review sentencing information provided by prosecutors, court records show.

Killewald also argued for a new trial, claiming Hunter has an alibi witness who says he was not at the Sycamore Meadows apartment complex when Jamar Gardner was shot.
Gardner, 30, died at the scene during a fight involving several people.
Killewald made the same argument on Hunter’s behalf at trial last month, but jurors convicted him of premeditated murder and multiple firearms violations after roughly four hours of deliberating.
Before the verdict was read, Killewald said a second alibi witness came forward on the trial’s final day in a letter delivered to Brown. It didn’t name a suspect, but the author of the letter insisted Hunter wasn't the gunman.
Two others were charged for their roles in the Jan. 23 confrontation that led to the shooting in the 8700 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
Marget Tracy Pittman, 35, will be sentenced July 28 on two counts of aggravated assault. Authorities said she struck multiple people with a baseball bat during a melee that involved her son, LaShawn Covington.
Pittman pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges. Felony counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm will be dismissed at sentencing.
Covington, 18, was scheduled to stand trial last month, but prosecutors dismissed the charge following testimony given at Hunter’s trial, officials said.
Hunter remains in custody and faces a mandatory life sentence on Aug.4.
