SI.com projects Michigan football to finish 8th in Big Ten; Mayoral candidate fakes photo with Nick Saban and more

By Kaleb Roedel

On Thursday, SI.com posted its Big Ten Conference football report.

The report, broken down by Stewart Mandel, is teased with a few of the Big Ten's biggest questions heading into the 2010 college football season.

Is Ohio State ready to let Terrelle Pryor loose? Has Penn State found a quarterback? Can Rich Rodriguez save his job?

Regarding the latter question, Mandel writes, "If the Wolverines reach a bowl and show they can compete in the league's upper-echelon, Rodriguez will be fine. But another embarrassing finish will be too much for the administration to bear."

SI.com projects Michigan to finish eighth in the Big Ten with a 3-5 record, and finish 6-6 overall. The report slots Michigan State fifth (4-4, 8-4) and Ohio State atop the league at 7-1, 11-1.

Bessemer Councilwoman Dorothy Davidson's flyer for her mayoral campaign shows a faked photo of her pictured with Alabama football Coach Nick Saban and claims Saban is endorsing her candidacy. The Birmingham News reports Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010 that Davidson admitted the photo wasn't real after initially claiming it was. But the newspaper says Davidson continues to claim Saban really did endorse her, even though university officials deny he did any such thing. (AP Photo/The Birmingham News).

I am tired of reading the fantasy comments about a great season for UM. And, I'm also tired of reading the comments that say UM - OSU is what college football is all about. Let's be honest, it was a game of regional interest that was forced on the nation. Certainly, the rest of the Big 10 hated the game and couldn't wait to see it end. And, now it's over. The turning point was UM's loss to OSU in Columbus during the night game. That was the end of the game as we knew it. Tressel has completely owned UM and will continue to do so. It's been complete domination. A devastating blow happened two years ago when the program decided to throw out everything that was good about the UM football. It pretty much ensured UM will not compete with OSU for many years to come. Now, the expansion of the Big Ten has ensured the game will never be what it once was. Remember the game they used to call The Game? That was Harvard and Yale, and now very few people care about that one. JB's comment - "If M is not first or second, something is very wrong". Exactly! Something's been very wrong for the last two years.

I didn't know SI was still in business good for them, I used to read them when I was young before computers. I would say that that is a fair prediction since that seems to be the overall consensus on Mich and their coach before a game has even been played. I'm not a kid anymore I don't make predictions before I've seen Mich. play in at least the first 3 games. Think about this prediction silliness, Mich. loses to App. state and then beats Florida with Tim Tebow QB and Urban coaching now who in gods green pastures good predict that? That would be worse odds than a lotto. You see boys and girls how silly it is to predict Mich. season before the first 3 games or at least the 1 game? I like SI they bring back old memories and I agree with them making these silly predictions I don't want to see another business go out of business becuase of sells. Think about it, think of all the copy around the 10 that they can sell just becuase so many people want to see this story about the Great Michigan Wolverines ranked number 8 in the 10 after all these 10 schools have been destroyed by Mich. football for so many decades. I would imagine everyone at MSU and ohio state will buy SI just to save the story. I will say this though true ohio state fans who understand the game want to see Mich. back in the mix after all, it's what college ball is all about, it's how ohio state judges it's progress and strength and it prepares either Mich. or ohio state for the bowl games. That was a quote from Eddie George.

I'd say it was right if we can pull this trainwreck together despite all of the distractions.

SI is obviously being kind. They say 3 B10 wins. Thats 2 more than last year. 8th is much better than last year's last place tie.

If Michigan does finish 8th it will be the first time SI has ever been right.

Soooo...is OSU's one loss to Iowa or Wisconsin, or is it that Michigan win everyone claims can allow us to go 7-5 or 6-6 and keep RR employed here one more year?
