Recent spring-like weather reminded the region that spring is coming. We know that the state and nation still have challenges. But we’re also inspired by the warmer days and increase in sunshine - and found these reasons to believe that the Ann Arbor area will have a good spring:

1. Ann Arbor will have a moment in the national spotlight thanks to President Barack Obama's commencement speech at the University of Michigan.

2. Bars and restaurants will go smoke-free May 1. That frees establishments to stop strategizing on how to find a balance between smokers and nonsmokers as they make business decisions.

3. People are spending again. Local business owners say they’re making more sales and shoppers feel more comfortable opening their wallets than last spring.

4. The region is seeing signs of job growth. Masco Cabinetry’s proposal for a tax incentive to move 350 jobs to Ann Arbor Township is the biggest, but other companies - like Adaptive Materials - is looking for staff, too.

5. The University of Michigan continues to show that it’s serious about planting seeds for a new and innovative public transportation plan.
