Here's what people were saying in the news this past week
Carsten Hohnke
"Obviously, I'm disappointed because I don't think they considered the safety of the citizens or the students of the University of Michigan. It doesn't look as though they tried to save any positions in fire or police." - Ann Arbor firefighters union President Matt Schroeder, on the budget passed by the City Council that eliminates a total of 20 positions in the police and fire departments.
"I'm not anti-Ambassador Bridge, I’m pro-international trade. Our goal here is to have all our crossings thrive and flourish. There’s a lot of misinformation on this topic," - Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, on his support for a second bridge spanning the Detroit River to Canada.
“When it comes to potentially depriving people from speaking out at the state’s flagship university, we thought that an appeal should be to an independent body and not to the police.” - Michael Steinberg, legal director of the ACLU of Michigan, on changes to the University of Michigan’s trespass policy.

Hohnke talks of getting beaten up pretty well while shadow boxing. The DDA is city hall's shadow, not its evil twin. Fighting the DDA is as much a battle as is running against a put-up vote splitter.
