Deputies release name of man who died after Hewitt Road crash

By Kyle Feldscher

Deputies have released the name of the 19-year-old Ypsilanti Township man who died Saturday from injuries he suffered in a traffic crash Thursday on Hewitt Road.

Yeltsin Gonzalez was driving the northbound car that veered into a southbound lane of Hewitt Road near Valley Drive in Ypsilanti Township Thursday morning.

According to deputies, Gonzalez crossed the centerline on Hewitt and hit an SUV head on. The woman driving the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Gonzalez was the third person to die as a result of an automobile crash in Washtenaw County at the end of last week. A 59-year-old Ypsilanti Township woman died Thursday after being struck by a vehicle on Golfside Drive north of Washtenaw Avenue in Pittsfield Township, and a 70-year-old Ann Arbor woman was hit by a pickup truck and killed on Ann Arbor-Saline Road north of Eisenhower Parkway Friday.

Police in Ann Arbor and Pittsfield Township have yet to release the names of the women who died in those crashes.

More details on the crash that killed Gonzalez were not released Tuesday morning. Sgt. Geoffrey Fox, of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, said Saturday it’s unknown why Gonzalez’s vehicle crossed the centerline and he was not turning at the time of the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711.
