National Signing Day is the first week of February and its when most high-profile football players realize a part of their dreams and sign their National Letter of Intent. Basketball breaks it into two parts with an early signing day in November and a regular period in April.
The regular period opened today, which means former Pioneer High School basketball player James Kelly made his commitment to Miami official.
Here's a rundown of other athletes in the Washtenaw County area who planned on signing letters of intent on Wednesday or in the coming days or who have committed to schools since February's signing day:

Some athletes recently added to the list: Pioneer basketball players Cal Kirchen and Forrest "Jay" Neal. Jay will play basketball at Mid-Michigan Community College and Cal intends to play basketball and soccer at Kalamazoo College. Also, Chelsea's Garrett Livernois will play tennis (and the drums) at Adrian College. If he does both at the same time, I'll be really impressed!

This is a good news story, its nice to see something positive about area teens! I'm familiar with some of these kids as well, and I wish all of them the best! Its nice that community colleges (with typically lower tuirtion) have athletic teams, huge universities aren't for everyone, this gives more options to the athletic students. Congrats!
