Ohio State 21, Michigan 10: Your guide to our coverage

By Pete Bigelow

Ohio State players celebrate their 21-10 win over Michigan with their fans in the first few rows at Michigan Stadium on Saturday.

Lon Horwedel | AnnArbor.com

There will be no bowl game this season. Again. There will be no upset of Ohio State. Again.

There won't be much of anything, as a matter of fact, for Wolverines fans to cheer about after the football team ended its season Saturday with its fifth straight loss.

The 21-10 defeat came at the hands of Ohio State, which beat the Wolverines for the sixth consecutive time. The Buckeyes took advantage of five Tate Forcier turnovers that haunted Michigan all day.

Our coverage of the game starts with Dave Birkett's game story below:

The administration screwed up when they wrote RR's contract. A last place finish in the big ten should result in an immediate discharge do not pass go do not collect $200. Michigan should never ever be last in the big ten. 5th should be the low years and top three finishes should be the norm. At Michigan the expectation is for the position not the player. Remember big 2 little 8. Michigan WAS part of big 2 now we are the big JOKE. This staff has destroyed what was a once storied and proud program. I graduated from Michigan in 1982 and have only seen one 6 and 6 season and Bo was not happy and made the necessary corrections by the very next year. This staff has no clue. Tate has went down hill since game one and the defense plays like 11 individuals instead of a cohesive unit. RR was supposed to be an offensive guru and even that has been questionable. 10 points on OSU is an embarrassment. Couple that with giving up 21 and you have a last place finish. Michigan reloads not rebuilds. Till RR understands that and brings in talent accordingly we are in trouble. Look at the number of QBs Michigan has in the NFL. Yeah Carr did not know how to recruit. RR was at the Florida game what did he miss. Seems to me he has no clue on transitions and bringing about change. You do not just destroy everything and start your own way willy nilly. How many companies could survive that? Not many. I hope he is successful going forward cause watching this crap for 2 years is about 2 too many. Finally shame on the season ticket holders who sold tickets to the buck nuts. One third of the stadium was pukey scarlet and ignorant. Give your tickets to neighborhood kids who would love to see an OSU vs Michigan game in the big house. Go Blue!!!

Once more RR throws Lloyd Carr and the previous regime (40 years) under the bus when he blames the losses on bad recruiting (Februaries) etc. RR is always one to pass the buck and refuse responsibility for his mistakes. It is the same thing with that $3 million dollar loan that he co-signed on and is now defaulting on. He is a flat out jerk. It is a wonder why UM administrators, alumni, students and fans put up with this BS.

Some people's excuses are other people's reasons. We just need to reflect on what's happened and move to what can be done about it. Getting rid of RR MAY be a first step, but what is to be done next? In case you're a Harbaugh fan and I do like him, his first two seasons at Stanford were not stellar, either. Many of the players left to RR would not have worked out in his scheme. Can you see the logic of getting others?

AZ, People who dont call the coach an idiot, arent kool-aiders. Many of us were and still are skeptical about RR and the spread in the Big Ten. But you have to give it time to develop. We are as disappointed as everyone else. Who isnt after starting 4-0. I personally respect RR more now than I ever have. This is now a personal battle for him, and hes getting hit in the kidneys by everyone and everything. Win or loose, Im standing behind him. And thats not the Kool-aid talking.

Valtski Just calling 'em like I see 'em. Would rather I use hillbilly instead? I can do that, if you prefer. I'm just trying to come up with a title for him, since he in no way is a head coach.

Further, if RR wins here (which I am on record as doubting), who will be responsible? It certainly can't be RR. The KoolAiders have made it quite clear that RR is not responsible for losses because he doesn't drop passes, miss tackles, turn the ball over, etc. By that same token, if they ever win, he's not the one who completes passes, makes tackles, and takes care of the football. In other words, by the KoolAider's own arguments, RR is not responsible for winning or losing. He's simply irresponsible. Of course, if he does win, those arguments will be excused away and forgotten.

valtski, If and when he does NOT win here (which is now and in the future), will RR backers EVER man up and admit they were/are wrong? I doubt it. Theo, Tater, etc have made bold predictions for the past two seasons and from week to week during both seasons that have been so far off base as to be laughable. As of yet, I have not seen either of them either year man up and admit they were wrong. I haven't seen any RR KoolAiders do it. Whether or not he wins in the future, the theo's and taters of the world have been WRONG so far. But, like their fearless leader, they simply barrage us with EXCUSES to cover up their ineptness. If RR wins big here and beats OSU, I will admit I was wrong. I WILL man up. I'd like to see it from the RR excuse makers but doubt I ever will.

smartguyNE_PA, continually calling the coach an idiot reflects negatively on you. If and When RR does become successful at Michigan, you will be the one called an idiot.

Ignatz Pete Carroll was on the coaching scrap heap. He'd failed at the NFL level and was considered an iffy selection for SC. He wasn't on anyone's "dream" list for a head coaching spot. What they did find in this guy was a leader, something we most definitely do not have in the Idiot. I will ask you or Fresh or any of you RR backers, WTH has he done to EARN another season as our head coach? Seriously. What has he done? Every thing that he has done has been a failure. And I'm not buying the no talent argument. The kids that were left after the Florida game, and I'm not counting the WR's that declared early, were good enough for almost any coach to win 8 or 9 games with the next season. You know that, even if you won't admit it here. The Idiot in his infinit wisdom ran off a LOT of talented kids. What I don't get from you guys is how you don't see the flaw in your own arguments. You say, "he's got to get his own kids". So in effect you are saying that he CAN NOT coach up and get the best out of a player unless he's already the best there is. IOW, unless the kids are already spectacularly talented, he can't win games. If that's the case, WTF good is he? A coach is supposed to get more out of player than what the player thinks he's capable of, the team is supposed to be greater than the sum of the parts. The Idiot though is just the opposite, the team is less than the sum of the parts. That's the hallmark of a poor coach. I'm w/AZ, he will never win more than 8 games no matter how long he stays. I'm hoping that his stay will be short and following next season's debacle, we can move on to a new coach that will fix the program. Unfortunately for that guy, he will have a rebuilding project in front of him, something that the Idiot did not.

Azwolverine, don't loose faith!!"Step away from the gun!"Be careful trying to predict the future.Life is tricky sometimes. It never works out the way you plan it(or WANT it to)but,it WORKS its way out!! Again,I'm not BIG on RR but,he's here now, so if you Love Michigan(like I think you do,you're just OVERLY concerned for Michigans future)then you gotta SUPPORT the team!!Don't let RR's craziness DRIVE you crazy!!Keep the faith Brother.Hopefully(and right now that's all we have)he will turn Michigan around. If not,he won't be around much longer!GO BLUE!!!

Az ur always with the same stuff at WV he may of not 1 the big game vs pitt. But neither did we vs osu when it was #1 vs #2 further more he was beatin sec teams pac 10 teams in bowl games wigh his crappy big east team dont give me the pat white crap cuz florida sure wouldent be were they are now without number 15..AZ if i teach you math and you say ok i got it im ready for the test and you fail is that might fault or yours or both?? I think rr should take more blame but the coaches coach and players play its a 2 way road. Theres only a couple games we were out of it a few thing go different and we have a few more wins..IMO either your for RR or you want him fired there isent much middel ground it seems with RR for folksits sad beacuse schools like florida and alabama have all had down years its how you rebound. And a Shoutout to Jim H and his freshmen Qb with the killer pick to lose the game and the axe.

azwolverine: You sort of addressed one of my questions when you metioned Pete Carroll. Who are we going to get now? When will they give us success? What players will this coach have to coach? As for Coach Carroll, hell, I could build a team if I was in California, Florida or any warm state. How long do you want to wait until they beat The Vest or JoePa?

I see RR going, at best, 6-6 to 8-4 next year...and the year after...and the year after that...and the year after that...and the year after that...Hello Charlie Weiss era.

I'll take the Big Mac! And who said that we TOTALLY had to rebuild the program? But that's all in the past(remember RR IS NOT a revisionist)we gotta deal with NOW! This NEW STYLE is what people wanted,I guess we gotta roll with it!We're at the bottom now, can't get any worse so I gotta root for Double R to pulls us thru!Good game against the Suckeyes(even though we lost) and I DO see potential,in the future, when these players get some size and maturity plus EXPERIENCE.......WE WILL BE BACK!!Please, believe that!It will happen.GO BLUE(for next season)!!!

ignatz, What world are you living in? First year coaches constantly turn programs around, and by the second year usually have a team winning big. Ever heard of Urban Meyer? Jim Tressel? Paul Johnson? Pete Carrol? And by the way, Pete Carrol took over USC when they had NO TALENT! They were a LOSING program! By year two they were 11-2 and on their way. If RR backers had any rational, objective arguments to hang their hats on I would not be so upset. They don't. RR is a proven LOSER at Michigan. That is OBJECTIVE FACT. Subjectively (which is ALL that RR backers have), I don't think RR will ever win more than 8 games here given even 10 years, he will NEVER beat Jim Tressel or OSU, and will never beat PSU as long as JoePa is there. He needs to go.

I'm tired of all the unconstuctive whining regarding this team and it's coach. Can anyone tell me which savior coach could come in, rebuild the team to a different style with the lack of the number of high quality players it would take to win a title? The players RR inherited were barely fit for the old style offense/defense, let alone the style with which he and others have been successful. How many of the current roster at their current skill level would start on top 25 teams? Not enough to win. RR has recruited some fine talent, now he and his staff need to coach them to prominence. Division 1-A football is not like McDonald's where you can get your "meal" in a few minutes. It takes time. Do you want a Big Mac or a Filet Mignon?

fresh121, That doesn't change the fact that RR is doing a terrible job. That sounds like the old grade school excuse when a student gets in trouble: "Well, he did it, too." LC is gone, RR is here...and he's destroying our program. It's time to move in a new direction.

True freshman quarterback and freshman mistakes. The defense showed some improvement. We had five turnovers that could have easily resulted in 35 points. Lets see what percolates next year before rushing to judgment.

LC 1-6 vs Jim T with all the talent we had all them years he knew and we knew it was his time to go he reached his peak and he was done.

RichRod football is so much more exciting than Lloyd Carr. I can't wait for next season so we can win for or five games and be last in the Big Ten again. That's what I pay $700 in season tickets to see. And for all of you Kool Aid drinkers who hated Coach Carr, below is a link to a reminder of times long past.
